We're going to the evening reception of a wedding, end of March, country hotel. I want to wear something dressy but not over the top and I'm really struggling as I usually wear black and have a slightly goth/rock style.

I was thinking of a dress but can't seem to find anything suitable - it would need to be past knee length but are maxi dresses a bit too casual? Also, I rarely wear dresses so not sure if I'd feel too self conscious in one? What about smart trousers? Oh I don't know!!

I'm a size 14-16 apple shape and don't like anything too clingy.
Hate my legs.
Look like a corpse in pastel colours.
And have a problem with blotchiness on my chest when feeling uncomfortable or drinking alcohol (both which will be an issue!) so am looking for something high necked if possible.

I'm a hopeless case aren't I? I really would appreciate ANY help. Thank you :!

I think a maxi would be great. Smart trousers would also be fine if that would make you more comfortable.

Thanks both :) Euro, what style of trousers would you suggest? I would usually wear bootcut with a pair of boots but not sure if that's a bit 'work wear'

Cremeegg, what a lovely site, thank you! I LOVE most of the longer styles but the prints are a bit fussy for me, although I do really like the skull & roses print. I wonder if there's anywhere I could try a few on?

If you do want to wear black (and loads of people did to my wedding, think it is fine personally) just try to add some colour via accessories, perhaps a coloured jacket, jewellry, shoes, tights etc. I would say a maxi dress would be nice BUT not sure how that would go with your chest blotchiness....

Oh my god, I LOVE that rockabilly dress! I'm thinking that with a red petticoat underneath to match the red trim and maybe a red bolero or shrug as well? I have dyed red hair with a brighter red streak in it as well so it would hopefully go well together? Thank you Cremeegg!

CheedarGorgeous, thank you too. I really like the Oasis maxi dress but they don't have my size, what a shame! The purple maxi dress is lovely too but I'm worried it may cling to my wobbly bits Wink I've bookmarked the site though, they have some lovely stuff!

Merkin, thank you. I was planning on colour along with the black, maybe red or purple to brighten it up. I've seen a few maxi dresses with high necks but they all seem to have low, bum skimming backs - I think I'd rather show my blotches off than my arse!!

Thanks again cremeeggsrock for finding it for me! I've shown it to my friends and they all agree I should go for it....gosh I haven't bought a dress in years!

Yes, I think I'm going to go with a red petticoat and red shoes to match the trim on the dress and my hair :)

I love all of the dresses, wish I was a millionaire! Of all of them though my fave is the one you chose. Although I do like the high neck on this one (to hide the blotchiness if it appears) but I think the other will be more flattering on my waist. What do you think?
