Can anyone point me in the direction of any fabulous but smart dresses?

I am in search of fabulous smart dresses (ie suitable for office job) on a budget.

Must not be too short (as for work) and I am especially keen on ones with sleeves.

Please post links or just ideas of shops to try. Thanks!

Is this too casual? I've seen it in person and it's nice thick material: www.matalan.co.uk/fcp/product/fashion-to-buy-online/-Dresses/-Belted-Jersey-Dress/67872&resultsPerPage=100&attrList=Dept,brand

I think a lot depends on your personal style, size, budget, colouring, etc etc, but I really love my Me & Em dresses (I buy in sale only). Excellent quality.

Phase Eight has a really good range of dresses for a variety of tastes as well.

I just ordered this Alexon one from JL, and it's great... except I'm so short, I think it's 2" too long for me, but if you're taller than 5' you should be fine!

Sorry can't do links on phone but I was in H&M yesterday quickly buying some hair things for DD's and kept on stopping to admire their new dresses, skirts, jackets etc. Looks like they've got lots of nice stuff in which would be great for smart work look.

Thanks missbee- I have never really looked at alexon before... but fashion has linked to some great ones too (at a much better price!) so I'll keep them in mind in the future, definitely.

I got this Biba one in the House of Fraser sale. It's v. comfy, thick material and lined. Has a gold thread in the material which may not be suitable for work?? I'll be wearing it for nights out with friends.

I have found that Alexon ones (ordered through John Lewis) are a size too big for me, I'm normally a 14 and need a 12 in Alexon.

I'd agree with that actually sewcrafty, definitely on the large side.
