Just that really. Has anyone used anything that they can say definitely works?

TIA

I've had a few Fraxel laser sessions, they help. Expensive tho.

I think Fraxel is the gold standard for treatment of scarring. Approx £400 to £500 a go usually. Depending on the severity of scarring, you may need between 4 and 8 sessions. I would like to do a few more, and when I can budget the time and money, I will.

Another vote for the laser treatment. I had 4 sessions and it's made a world of difference. It stopped the active acne too. I wanted to have 2 more sessions done but couldn't afford it at the time.I think that for very deep scarring, if that is what you have then you will need 6 or more treatments, so it's flipping expensive but it does work. I hope I can afford some more treatment one day!

Doesn't acid peeling help then? Have been meaning to try...

Ooooh sounds good, but a little steep. I guess if it works well though I could wait until I have the money.

My scarring is very minimal, just one here and there, but I do have active acne, which I am keen to get rid of. Do I need to go to a plastic surgeon for it?

Try microdermabrasion to start off with. Maybe go to somewhere like Transform as they do acid peels too & you can see what works for you

Good luck!

If you have active acne then i have heard this one is really good

If you have active acne I'd say most dermatologists will delay laser until the acne is under control, on the basis of what's the point spending money if you might get more marks. Acid peels and microdermabrasion might help a little, although the really high % acid peels (under general anaesthetic) might do a bit more. Afaik, Fraxel is the best. Worth a chat with a good cosmetic dermatologist. You probably don't need a plastic surgeon.

What do you mean by scars? Pigmentation or indents? I had both but a series of glycolic peels got rid of the redness and now I can live with the indentations.

Pigmentation, no serious indentations.

Another vote for microdermabrasion, I had acne scars on the sides of my face and had one session of this about 5 years ago and it sorted it. Best £45 I ever spent, hand on heart.

The one session I had was quite a harsh one though, after it my face looked like a tiger for the rest of the day.

I've had it done a couple of times since but by a different person (the first lady went somewhere else) and it's never been done as aggressively since (although I don't actually need it anymore) so you need to make sure you tell them not to be gentle!

Is it bad for your skin Something? Its not going to age me is it?

No no, the opposite apparently! When I got it they ran a little tiny hoover type thing all over my face (to bring the blood to the surface I think), then they did the microdermabrasion bit, then two different types of light therapy, one was a blue light which is for younger skin as it is anti-bacterial, then they did a bit of a red light which is good for older skin and wrinkles.

I like to think it was just taking all my old scarred skin off, and left me with all the baby soft new skin that was underneath.

I would just say make sure you get someone that is brave enough to be quite aggressive with it, and just make sure that you clear your diary for the rest of the day so you can go home and low there with the little collagen mask they give you.

Actually, now I remember, the light therapy was done over that collagen mask, then they let me take it home with me.

Something, can I just ask, were your scars pigment or indentation?

Walnutcakelover · 16/02/2013 21:43

Can anyone recommend or find a good place in Derby to get this done? I have no idea where to start looking! TIA

I think it was mostly pigmentation, but there was definitely at least a bit of indentation too.

I'm not sure if it was hydrotherapy, I just booked it as microdermabrasion and all that stuff came with it, not sure if that's standard or not though, but the place I went to (in Scotland) wasn't a very fancy place or anything, just quite standard I'd say.

Try repeat lactic acid peels before going for laser treatment.

Does it remove the skin? I have very sensitive skin, so am worried about damaging it.

Drink 8 glasses of water in a day, hydration is good for all skin types and keeps your skin radiant. Make a face mask with grated raw potato and use it twice or thrice a week, very effective on all kinds of scars. You can also squeeze one whole lemon into a glass of water at room temperature, and drink it first thing in the morning.
