Fancy outfit that I can wear with boots or at least flats

I really could do with some advice. I'm due to go out for a fancy ladies launch at the Savoy in a few weeks, and I was planning on wearing a galaxy-type dress and vertiginous shoe boots for the occasion. I now know, however, that I am having my varicose veins lasered five days prior, so high heels are out. And with them, the galaxy dress - that needs heels in my opinion.

Now, the advice I need. What kind of a dress will look fableeous on a 40yo, size 12 who has to wear black opaque compression stockings, and flat shoes or boots? Can't be trousers - compression stockings and trousers = WAY too hot.

Any ideas? I'd much appreciate it.

Can't help with the outfit, but why will you have to wear compression stockings? I had my varicose veins removed by laser last year, and was told I only had to wear the bandage for a week.

I would wear the plainest (but smart) black skirt possible, to take attention away from the lower half of your body, especially legs, then find a smart top and a stunning jacket.

I don't have any specific suggestions, because I don't know your colouring, your body shape, your style or your budget...

Or

Brocade 7/8 lengths (need bandages not tights for this one)
Fine knit plain top
Statement necklace
Blazer

Or
Ballet flats
Leather trousers (again need bandages)

Or

Ihatemytoes, it will only be about 3 and a half days after the procedure, hence I still need the compression garments. How did it work out for you btw? How swollen/bruised were you afterwards? Am I panicking needlessly?

Lechatrouge, I love the idea of the brocade 7/8 trousers!

And vitaminC, I have a lovely black chiffon blouse with ENORMOUS sleeves. I may press that into service, as you suggest!

flybynight It worked out fine for me. i had the procedure a week before we were due to drive to Cornwall on holiday. Bad planning on my part! I had hardly any pain or swelling right after the procedure, but about two days into the holiday, I had quite a lot of pain at the top of my thigh where the lazer was inserted. Nurofen sorted that though. I don't have any scars as such, just a few dark spots where the veins were removed, and they're fading every day. So I'd say don't panic. and enjoy the results!
