Funeral attire for ten year old DD. struggling to find something

DD has asked to come to the funeral of her great aunt. I've been looking at the usual clothes sites for a simple black dress and black smart coat, but can't find anything out of season, it's all flowers and spring in the show.

She s in age 11-12 clothes. She oes have a black dress from Christmas but it has a sequinned collar and is lacy over the top, so perhaps a bit showy for a funeral?

Any advice gratefully received because I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable at the funeral.

I wouldn't worry about it being black at her age. A simple dress in a neutral shade would be fine. Or even dark trousers with a plain top

Inwould steer clear of black.

Ds came to my mum's funeral and I just bought him some dark trousers and a nice shirt (darkish colours but not black.)

Can you find a winter coloured dress, purple, browns etc.? Also, provided it isn't bright pink, her school coat will do. She is 10 and nobody will expect her in full mourning clothes.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.

I had to buy DD a funeral outfit last week, and got her a plain black skater dress.
I'm racking my brains to think where it came from, so will be back when I remember!

Have you tried Zara? They do quite traditional clothes in neutral colours. Also not that expensive.

GAP have this navy spot with long sleeves

Also this, short sleeve but pretty. She could maybe wear with a long sleeve t under for now

My DD is also 10 and for my Nana's funeral last year she wore a kilt type skirt and a long sleeve t-shirt, neither of them black but in muted colours. She also had brown boots and her grey school coat. I did look for something black but it seemed to be either school uniform or partyish stuff so what we went for seemed the best option and she didn't look at all out of place. I guess it depends how formal you think it will be though and how the adults will dress - this wasn't an especially 'smart' funeral.

Hope you manage to get something sorted, clothes are the last thing you want to be worrying about but I must admit it was my first thought too because I'd hate to have got it wrong.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I would say as long as she is smart she doesn't have to be in black, TBH. My DSes, and DH, wore pink shirts to my Nan's funeral because it was her favourite colour. I wore a pink cardigan.

I have been to a few funerals in the past few years, and even very close relatives haven't been head to toe in black.

Hi there,

Have you got/can you find a black or navy skirt, with a white blouse and a black or navy cardigan, coat or jacket?

I had a look at the Gap website, and they have a navy polka dot dress, and a heart print black dress, and a navy blazer, several navy skirts, uniform or more casual styles, and white shirts.

I don't think you need to be as formal for a youngster, so I think something like the navy polka dot dress would be fine.

I hope you find something, and it goes ok.

A child doesn't need to be kitted out in black. A sensible dress/skirt and jumper will be fine.
Boden has this

Sorry to hear of your loss .
My nephews ( young teens ) wore school trousers and black polo necks to my Mums funerals .
DD ( age 4 ) wore a navy and white dress and navy cardigan
DS (6 ) I don't remember what he wore Sad
School trousers and a blouse , cardi will be fine , with a coat to keep warm .

Thanks for all these options. I'll take a good look at them. Reassuring to know it doesn't need to be black. Thank you.
