Blazers or a blazer-style jacket

Still a good look?

I am on maternity leave and mainly wear Skinnies, tops that I can BF in (but not tunics Smile) and cardis. Plus a ski coat for going outside at the moment! I feel like I'd like to smarten up a bit, so thinking of swapping the cardis for a blazer, possibly with a scarf. Especially looking ahead to spring. I'm thinking- something fairly casual (not going back to work just yet), maybe coloured, not dry clean as I have a little baby. Budget - up to £75 (but I do love a bargain). I'm tall.

So lovely S&B ladies, any suggestions?

Or maybe I need something else (ie not a blazer/jacket?)

Many thanks.

I will watch this as I too am after some natty jackets/blazers to wear with skinnies. Think Nikki from Silent Witness........... Smile

Nikki from Silent Witness is AMAZING. I love her style! Sadly I will never be as slender as her (I'm not big, just not in her league).

I got the navy/black trim version of the ponte academy blazer from Gap blazers. I like it very much and esp like that it was about 1/2 price. It is stretchy so can accommodate my attempts at post baby weight loss somewhat. IIRC the website said dry clean, but the in-jacket label says machine wash 30. I got it to wear for going back to work but it also looks fine with a denim mini skirt for going to play group. HTH

I LOVE Nikki too - I wonder if sales of blazers go up when Silent Witness comes back.

I don't have much choice for shopping up here, but I'm off to buy the grey jersey blazer from Next today. It's sooo soft, lined and machine washable. I'm planning to wear it with slim leg or skinny jeans and mostly stripey/Breton style tops (delete the least offensive striped top name for yourself).

I'm sooo pleased I'm not the only one modelling my wardrobe on Nikki - I thought I was weird.......(I probably am, but that's another thread Wink )

Comely do you mean this one from Next?

I love the Gap academy ones but I wanted Navy really. Next do a navy one but it has a poor review and I try and avoid shipping there as the quality always seems so poor now compared to what it used to be like.

I fancy this one from white stuff, though I wonder if I actually prefer the next one.

I've had lots of blazers from H&M. Good quality, wash well and low price.

Yes Dosh that's the one. The fabric is really soft as it's jersey, but it's got an almost tweedy look to it, and I love tweed! They didn't have my size so I've ordered it for sat - I can't wait!!!! Is it wrong to be so excited about a jacket?

They also had a lovely spotted chiffon blouse which I might splash out on and wear under the jacket. I used to hate Next, but post DC/hitting 30 I seem to be in their "zone". I agree the quality isn't what it was, but I think it's cheaper too so I don't mind quite so much. I've heard loads of negative things about their jeans too, but I haven't had a problem at all! Horses for courses I guess.

I've been looking for a blazer too.

What about Boden's breadwinner blazer?

I really like New Look for jeans, skinnies, boyfriend and slim leg boot cut types.

I just had this delivered this morning, haven't tried it on yet.

Seriously tempted to get that blazer, do want one in Navy though.......

please link to spotted blouse?

I've found the shirts online, now seeing them on the model I think I might prefer the stripe...but the spot probably still goes best with the blazer colourwise.

I like the Boden Breadwinner Blazer, but I feel I can dress the Next one with skinny jeans etc more successfully - also I love the contrast lining in the sleeves of the Next one, I plan on rolling them up when the weather allows.

I used to wear New look jeans before I began my Next dalliance. They were really good. Washed really well etc.

Thank you so much all! Some lovely ones here. I think my favourite from the links is the Next grey one, pretty much exactly what I had in mind.

Arf at comely's Breton ref. Naughty. Smile

thanks, yes I am hoping it won't gape at the boobs.

I love the spotty one, would look lovely with black palazzo work troos and a waistcoat. Do you think you need a cami under it?

at OP. I bought a jacket from H&M just after I had DS - it got me out of a million style issues last summer - I basically just threw it on over whatever else I had on at the time and then I looked much better! Mine was jerseyish - I can't really describe the fabric... but it was a light navy colour.

Dosh I think if was work I would wear a cami for certain, but if it were 'of an evening' you might not need it. It is sheer anyway.

I get the gapey at the boobs thing too! It drives me nuts. I often have to wear a cami under a shirt and then open the top few buttons, or wear a bigger unflattering size.

Ice I was determined to wear my Blazer regardless of the weather so threw it one with a big scarf and went (only in the car though, I'm not completely hard-core!)

So I went to next this afternoon and bought a grey blazer. But I don't think it is the one linked to on here...Hmm. Not sure I'm going to keep it, it is very smart....too smart?

I also tried on the spotty top.....and it gaped even in the size I am. Would have had to buy a size up, which would have been massive everywhere else. Denim shirt fits a treat though. Smile
