Scottish dentist struck off for putting own financial gain before dental care of patients

Stuart Craig, based in Auchinleck, Ayrshire, has been struck off by the General Dental Council (GDC) following a public hearing into allegations that he provided a poor standard of care to patients.

The allegations, heard by the GDC?s professional conduct committee are in connection with incidents that occurred between 1986 and 2011 when he was practising at 29 Sorn Road.

The case involved 34 patients and the committee found that, among other things, Mr Craig had:

? Provided fillings when there was insufficient clinical justification in relation to 16 patients

? Inappropriately provided crowns for five patients

? Prescribed three-monthly scale and polishes for 19 patients when it was not clinically justified

? Failed to provide a good standard of care or treatment for 16 patients

? Put his own financial interests first for 30 patients.

A significant fact underpinning the Committee?s findings in this case is that serious shortcomings were found in the radiographic evidence of 34 patients whose records were selected at random.

In the circumstances, the committee determined that the only appropriate and proportionate sanction to maintain the standards of the dental profession and public confidence in it, was that of erasure.

Mr Craig?s registration was immediately suspended and unless he exercises his right of appeal, his name will be erased from the register 28 days from the hearing.

Some Dentists are Greedy buggers aren't they?! Here is another one...

Suspended dentist jailed

A dentist, who continued to work after being struck off by the General Dental Council (GDC), has been sentenced to seven weeks imprisonment

Amir Kamburov, whose registered address is in Sutton in Surrey, was erased from the GDC?s Register with immediate suspension on 11 July 2012, however he lodged an appeal against that decision but remains suspended and not allowed to practise dentistry in the UK.

The GDC has helped the Crown Prosecution Service and Metropolitan Police Drugs Directorate bring a case to court after allegations that he continued to practise dentistry despite being suspended.

On Friday 7 December 2012 Mr Kamburov pleaded guilty at Lavender Hill Magistrates? Court in London to fraud by false representation and to practising dentistry unlawfully. He was remanded for Community Reports.

A further complaint was received by the GDC that Mr Kamburov continued to practise dentistry.

He was re-arrested by officers of the Metropolitan Police and charged with an offence of fraud by misrepresentation and two offences of unlawfully practising dentistry.

He pleaded guilty to these three offences at Lavender Hill Magistrates? Court on Friday 21 December 2012 and was again remanded until Friday 28 December 2012 for sentencing.

On 28 December 2012, he was sentenced to 3 weeks imprisonment on the first fraud offence, four weeks imprisonment on the second to be served consecutively making a total of seven weeks imprisonment. No separate penalty was imposed in relation to the charges for unlawfully practising dentistry.

Mr Kamburov?s suspension is recorded on the GDC?s Registers.

I think there are dishonest and greedy people in all walks of life unfortunately. These two just happen to be dentists. This is why we have registration for professions like this so that we can stop them from practicing (and causing harm) in the case of incompetence or malpractice.

ggirl - Because people pay for cosmetic dentistry. Imagine having crowns placed or any other dental treatment that you don't need. Having unecessary treatments to put money in a so called professionals pocket. Not good.
