Fancy dress related help for my dd, please- she wants to look amazing!

For various complex boy and self esteem related reasons, my dd needs to look sensational at a party soon. She is 17, 5'6, size 12. The theme is Superhero/super villain. She doesn't want to go down the obvious cat/bat woman track, and she doesn't want anything too revealing. Picture on my profile if it helps- she wears contacts now.

Does anyone have any ideas? In the circumstances I'm prepared to buy her something if I have to.

I'll have a think but just wanted to say she's gorgeous. Love her hair.

She is gorgeous, what about Poison Ivy or Cruella DeVille?

Report
womblingalong · 12/01/2013 08:27

Poison Ivy would work really well with her colouring, and so would Cruella, and the best bit about Cruella, is you can wear a very slinky, longish black dress, so can look smoking hot!

Jessica rabbit! Red dress black gloves.

She thought about Poison Ivy, but all the costumes look a bit a Peter Pan-ish. I wonder if we could make one? Jessica Rabbit's a good idea. One of her friends has bagged Cruella.

It's just occurred to me that this thread's a bit like taking her to Tesco when she was a baby- I'll come out glowing because of everyone telling me how gorgeous she is! Thank you!

Bellatrix Lestrange- corset, boobs, smoky eyes
Goblin queen x -men ( wears thigh high boots, cape, not much else)
But think poison ivy and Jessica rabbit are FAB ideas

If she wore a black catsuit and a couple of accessories she could be Jean Gray (X-Men) or Black Widow?

Does Ariel from a little mermaid count as a superhero??

What about one of the women from X-Men eg Storm, or the Invisible Girl from Fantastic Four? Both slinky but quite wearable costumes. Jessica Rabbit might make her feel a bit uncomfortable (and cold) as it's so revealing. If she can carry that off, though, good luck to her! This boy's not going to know what's hit him Grin

She Ra or Wonder Woman?

If you google, jean grey from x men comes up a lot. Never seen it so no idea. Or how about ginny Weasley from Harry potter?

What about Barbarella?

Report
notnowImreading · 12/01/2013 09:17

She-Ra would be amazing - I want to be her! However, think she's more of a 30-something fantasy than something teenagers would recognise. It's got to be recognisable for it to work.

Yeah I want to be She Ra too!

Just 'borrowed' this list from Yahoo answers:

Red haired Super Heroes and Villains:

Phoenix from X-Men (Jean Grey aka Black Queen)

Goblin Queen (villain from X-Men, Jean Grey's clone)

Phoenix II from X-Men (Jean Grey's daughter from alt. future)

Mystique from X-Men (her hair can be any color, but most of the time in the comics it's a dark red I think)

Black Widow from Avengers

Scarlet Witch from Avengers (might be brown hair, not sure)

Firestar (from X-Men + Avengers)

Medusa from Inhumans

Crystal from Avengers / Inhumans (sort of orange hair)

Tigra from Avengers (again, sort of orange)

Hellcat from Avengers / Defenders

Wolfsbane from New Mutants / X-Force

Vindicator (Guardian II) from Alpha Flight

Red Sonja

Mary Jane Watson

Poison Ivy (as you mentioned)

Batgirl (Barbara Gordon, 1st Batgirl)

Batwoman (the new one)

Hawkgirl (sort of orange, i think)

Starfire from Teen Titans

Mara Jade (from Star Wars novels, Luke Skywalker's wife)

Dawn (indie comic by Joe Linsner)

Ariel from "Little Mermaid"

Anna Mercury

7 of 9 from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"

Jessica Rabbit from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"

Daphne from "Scooby-Doo"

She is beautiful and her hair is amazing.

I'd definitely go for jessica rabbit and get a great red dress which she'd be able to use afterwards too.

Something like this

I'm not going to ask why she needs to be more gorgeous than she already is but if you want kick ass takes no prisoners and stunning, then I'm going for black widow -cool, intelligent and in my DSs latest book on avengers ... "no one knows what she will do next, but we know it will be exactly what she wants to do" which I consider a good motto for any 17 year old!

seeker · 13/01/2013 09:19

Right- so it's narrowed down to either Black Widow or Poison Ivy. We can do - black widow from stuff we've got already- but I'm wondering how hard it wouldnbe to make something like this

Apologies for it being a Huffington Post link!

Has she thought of going as a male superhero with a feminine twist? For example, I went to a party dressed as Zorro - not too revealing but quite sexy......black leggings, billowing white shirt, cape, hat, mask, knee high boots and lashings of red lipstick.
