That aren't skinny/super skinny but build for KIDS to wear She is tall, she isn't skinny and she shouldn't have to end up harrassed and upset trying on aged 14yr old jeans which barely go on and are 8inches too long at the bottom Sad

I eventually got her woman's size 10 out of Debenhams.

She had the most beautiful pair of wide legged dark denim ones from ASDA which she has grown out of. Why doesn't anywhere do something like that anymore - the skinny/super skinny/skinnier than thou look just doesn't suit everyone, bless her.

I'm completely with you on this. I have exactly the same problem with dd. Just had to pay dry cleaners £8 to take up about 6 inches from a pair of trousers! The last pair of jeans we got (not skinny) - which still fit - came from bhs. The website's not great but you might get lucky in store if you've got one near you. If not hopefully others might have ideas!

Next do different sizes within the age (So age 9 sm/m/large - or something like that). We buy Boden for my daughter as they have adjustable waistbands so come up large on the waist and then you adjust to fit with elastic inside. Also, just a thought (but expensive) Levi's (which I buy, but I am not growing) have different "shape" fittings. Boden and Levi's are expensive (Levi's much more so) but both have good resale value on eBay so you get something back when she outgrows them.

What is her actual waist size and leg length?

Sometimes boys jeans fit some girls better so they may be worth a try?

pinkteddy BHS is where I get her school trousers. Aged 14yrs and then spend money having them taken up too!

roseformeplease Boden sizes are no use at all - the amount of stuff I've sent back is ridiclious. I hadn't thought of Levi's though so thank you! We have 3 DDs of which she is the eldest so by the time they're through all 3 they're not really worth selling on!!

OddBoots - I must measure her. She's tall for her age, the only girl taller than her in the year was kept back a year so is 8 months older. She started off big at 10lb4oz so I never expect her to be in the appropriate size for her age, she never has been Grin

DD2 is constantly in boys jeans, her preference and a much better fit. I just want DD1 to actually enjoy choosing her clothes and not be in tears as she's not getting to pick the jeans with the sparkly cherries on the back

DD3 is tiny, the only one of my 3 who CAN wear skinny things and, typically, refuses to leave the house in anything other than a dress, I can't win!!!

sausagesandwich it would need to be in the adult store, nothing in GAP Kids fits.

I just cannot understand why people seem determined to put kids in super skinny clothing - what ever happened to comfort Hmm

The ones I got for her today were 'animal' ones in Debenhams. Size 10 and rather low on the hip - she keeps trying to pull them up to her waist! The other brand was Mantaray something or other

Dorothy Perkins do great jeggings (jean leggings), with elasticated waist but with a nice waistband IYKWIM - my dd is 13 and loves them. They do a short leg too. £21. Different colours.

I had/have same trouble getting clothes to fit DD properly - all her friends seem to be exceptionally petite, DD is a size 12.

You might find it easier in the summer when the cropped versions hit the shops again, aged 14 cropped might be ankle length on her.

Hi Kbear Smile

DD1 is still only 9, I suppose I was hoping not to have to enter into the world of Dot P, Top shop etc so far. Will have a look though as she can't keep stuffing herself in the ones she has.

We got good ones from Vertbaudet (mail order) but that was a few years ago. Gap also do good fits (though in women's section rather than girls) but they are pricey, but seem to last.

Biden do girls bootcut jeans and cords, not the cheapest but great quality, wash brilliantly and generously sized.

Are vertbaudet not normally very small made for kids? I only used to order from them when the kids were tiny wee babies

Cheesemonkey - we find the Boden sizes completely off in this house - so much so I refused to pay for returns as I was having to send so much stuff back Sad

Some lovely Next ones there. Especially 3rd and 4th ones along on the top row - really nice boyfriend fit ones. As a PP said, they often come in different fittings which is handy.

Or these Bluezoo ones?

Not that she has a 'waist' per say although it's starting.

Dd is a tall slim but solid 9 year old too and we are having the exact same problem.
I have figured I'm going to have to go into adult sizes for her.
I hadn't thought of Levi's. She has some Boden but they are crops that are a bit long. They actually look nice with boots and tights.

dizzydixies · 28/12/2012 20:34

According to Vertbaudet a 13/14yr old girl should have a 61cm waist and boy should have 66cm

She's only 9 SadSadSad

There was a Vertbaudet teenage range in those days - not sure if they still do it. I used to go a size up. I always thought the sizing indicated that French kids must be small and skinny as young children and then suddenly become tall around the age of 10 or 11.

imagine being pegged as a 'plus size' when you're 9yrs old FFA Angry
