Has anyone bought from Nordstrom? And what do you think of this dress?

here its for a wedding in the spring. I am 5'2", a size 6-8 with longish red hair and pale skin. I look dreadful in prom style dresses, pencil shape is much better for me.

the wedding is a friend who is also an ex, so I will know all his family etc and its always a bit odd being at an ex's wedding, so I really want to look good. I've never bought from overseas (well, not clothes) before. any tips?

It's a nice dress, but now wow. Also, for the price of it, I think the satin might be quite thin - take a close look at the hem and you can see what I mean. You might be better going to somewhere like Coast and trying on, feeling the weight of the material etc.

I don't know anything about Nordstrom, but it looks like a winner how you describe yourself!

thanks, Ive been browsing coast etc. I am worried about the quality, etc. its such a beautiful dress, if it was in the uk I wouldnt hesitate. with shipping/duty it goes up to £165.

Bought from Nordstrom a lot of times but I always had the orders shipped to a hotel in the US.

Only had a problem with the most recent order; Nordstrom don't have warehouses and when you order something it's fulfilled by a store so sometimes between ordering and fulfilment the item can go out of stock and be cancelled. Happened to me on two orders in December, they place a hold on the card for the funds then a week or two later I get the 'oh, sorry, we don't have that anymore'

Also remember to check the size - American clothes run bigger so US 6 is UK 8 etc etc

Love the first one, especially with your colouring, very Christina Hendricks.

Don't like either of the Coast ones.

Love the one from ASOS but not wild about the shade of green, prefer it in the aubergine colour.

I really like the last one but I think it's a bit austere for a wedding, bordering on officey.

I love the green Karen Millen one. I think it would look amazing with your colouring and size.

fellatio, thats the look I'm aiming for. green is a great colour on me, I cant wear red. the only other colour I can wear without trying it on first is purple. I think the asos one looks a bit cheap. dh has said that he is willing to splash out on a really nice dress for me. the dark green is lovely, but yes, a tad officey

solde, the karen millen one is my favourite alternative, so far. I have freaky long legs and narrow hips so peplum dresses look pretty good

Hmmm...do you not think the KM one is a bit OTT for a daytime wedding? Very eveningy with the one shoulder thing going on.

ah, yes, good point.

The nordstrom one would look absolutely amazing on you but is very pricey

Mrs, I know. I balked at the price, but I showed it dh and he loved it and has said that his happy to buy it for me if that's the one I want.

I can totally see myself in it with my hair waved and minimal make up (i don't wear much anyway) high heels and a clutch.

Forgot to say - check eBay.com there's some people selling new ones of this dress not sure if if was the right colour / size etc. might save you a bit of money

Like Nordstrom dress. Yes, have bought from there before and always been very happy.

For those who think the dress is expensive, Nordstrom is on a par with Harvey Nicks - so quality/higher price are to be expected.

Have bought from Nordstrom when in US. Love the shop and I think the dress is gorgeous.

I have to say, I want to avoid coast etc because it's a "go to" shop for weddings. I want something that I'm not likely to have a same dress moment in Xmas Grin I think it's worth the extra, tbh.

Should I go for a 6 or a 4? They don't have the green in petite, which is a shame.

Thanks for the ebay tip, I shall look.

I'm a small UK 10 (5ft 7) and find a 4 usually fits me. 6 can be far too big. I know that 'officially' US6 translates as UK10..... Can you find any measurements for the dress? If not on the Nordstrom site, does the designer have their own site?

I will take a look. A 4 will be best then, it seems that it comes up small.
