I need some handbag help!

Expecting DC2, and I would like a lovely leather across body bag that I can keep my purse/phone in so I can keep the changing bag hanging on the pram without having to take it off. I also just want a new really nice handbag as I haven't had one for years, and it's the only thing I can think of to ask DH for for Christmas.

I would LOVE a mini Mulberry Alexa, but with a baby on the way and us moving house at some point soon it's probably unjustifiable to spend that much.

So, can anyone here help me out with a bag that will satisfy me? Preferably black leather, which will not go out of fashion and is timeless, well made and stylish all in one? I reckon he would probably go up to £250 for it.

Thanks!

mmm got Alexa and also got a baby and found it too big so i asked for Chloe- beautiful perfect size for mobile and wallet, bit over the budget though.

I quite liked this Bridge little leather bag: http://www.leathershop.co.uk/prod/867/the-bridge-flap_over-shoulder-b
it really looks better in real life smile
Also my friend has Mulberry Lily bag with chain, again perfect for just a wallet and mobile.

I did see the Lily but it looks REALLY tiny - def too small for my current wallet (although maybe an excuse for a new one of those too?!)

I'm not convinced about the Bridge bag - I believe you it looks better in real life but I think I'd have to go and have a look at it first.

Which Chloe bag do you mean (I know it's probably over budget but no harm in giving him a few ideas - you never know!)

Take a look at an Alexa camera bag online. I got mine from an outlet. IMO they are bigger than a mini Alexa and have the main Alexa features imo and not that much more than your budget.

Take a look at this

I like the camera bag, but I can't seem to find it anywhere official? It looks lovely though. A few on Ebay, but I'm always really sceptical about authenticity!

Ring up a Mulberry outlet (York, Bicester etc (look at the official Mulberry website). For around ten pounds they will send it to you). Its not a current season bag.

LittlePickleHead Tue 06-Nov-12 20:42:01

Oh great advice, thank you! If you don't mind me asking - how much did you spend on it?

Ilovecrossfit Tue 06-Nov-12 20:42:19

i meant thats the one Ive got in black

LittlePickleHead Tue 06-Nov-12 20:44:23

Mmmmm ilove that is GORGEOUS. Dammit real bag envy now. How can I convince DH that it's not an irresponsible purchase?

Ilovecrossfit Tue 06-Nov-12 20:45:08

Also Ive got this one too ( Im a bag addict!!) BUT I got Chloe as this one didnt feel safe doesnt close properly except little button under a flap..Chloe has got two zips so safe!

I would also check out the purse forum and the mulberry section. They have a reference thread.

LittlePickleHead Tue 06-Nov-12 20:47:12

Oh I like the Effie as well, though it looks a little bigger than what I'm after. I see what you mean about safety though, I much prefer something that zips up

Itsgottabebags Tue 06-Nov-12 20:47:43

Also Mulberry prices went up on Monday...

Ilovecrossfit Tue 06-Nov-12 21:15:47

I know Im terrible with bags...Just ask your husband ( read nag)..I love my big Alexa but is too big with the buggy/changing bag ( even though we are on a smaller bag now) and it would take ages to find my wallet under nappies etc. So having a nice cross body bag is essential smile LOL...
I prefer Chloe to Effie one, my friend has a beautiful Lily bag-everywhere I see them they have chain as a strap but hers doesnt...I WANT IT SOOO BADLY>>>
I knwo is last season and actually as someone said on here I will ring the outlet tomorrow to see if they have it in.

Have fun bag choosing smile

Lovely bags ladies. I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs Percy for the same purpose, I have a change bag so just wanted a small crossbody for phone, keys, hairbrush, lippy, cards and cash. I could fit a small wallet in but I just keep my cards and cash free in there.

Ilovecrossfit Tue 06-Nov-12 21:54:27

djembe
You are good with hairbrush and lippy..I never use either...

Djembe Tue 06-Nov-12 22:04:34

Haha that was just like a mental list of what I keep in there to illustrate the size of the bag! I could add chewing gum, shopping lists, Ellas Kitchen biscuits... grin

Ilovecrossfit Tue 06-Nov-12 22:26:14

Oh yeah Ella's kitchen I like the biscuits more than my 9mths old x

Ilovecrossfit Tue 06-Nov-12 22:26:29

Gosh she's 11 not 9 now

Just saw the Mulberry price increases- the Bayswater I bought for £500 in 2008 is now on at £795. Recession? What recession?!

Itsgottabebags Wed 07-Nov-12 07:37:04

I know Craic I bought my Bayswater on ebay for around half the price it is now!

LittlePickleHead Wed 07-Nov-12 14:18:32

Omg djembe I LOVE the Percy! The email has pinged over to DH already. Thank you thank you!

Doyouthinktheysaurus Wed 07-Nov-12 14:29:27

OMG the price hike in the Mulberry bag I've been lusting after is hugeshock

I've got an Anthony which I got in the sale a few years back. I adore it, it's the perfect cross body bag and I fancied the navy one. I'm sure it was either £450 or £495 last week, now it's £550. I'd already decided it's not getting another but Christ, that's a price hike!

When I bought mine it was £160 plus postage in the sale!
