MIL (67) bought this in River Island

blazer

She wore it out to dinner with a long sleeved black top of some sort underneath, black straight leg trousers, and black Chelsea ankle boots.

She looked frickin' amazing! She's not a remotely muttony or particularly 'done-up' woman. I just thought it was an astute buy on her part.

I know, Winkly! I had similiar thoughts.
Poor DP didn't know whether to be perturbed or impressed - he also shops in River Island Grin

Good for her! 'Old ladies' generallly get a bad rap here on 'Style and Beauty' odd seeing as how we're all headed that way Grin

My Mum regularly shops in RI - she is 72 and cool as Christmas! She's just bought a leather biker jacket.

Jesus! I havent shopped in RI for a few years, but may go back for a look now.

I think the key is to choose pieces wisely, remain stylish but not 'muttony'

My Mum is also nearly 72 and looks amazing for her age. She wears lovely clothes and looks fantastic. It helps that she has a young daughter me to keep her on the straight and narrow. Grin

Very true, Jax. MIL is tallish and about a size 14. She buys long silky shirts and blazers and kimono jackets - all in RL! They look expensive and classic on her. They definitely do not look too cheap-trendy.

Anyway that blazer is 100% cotton. It's nice isn't it?

Good link. I like that blazer and can totally see how it would work on an older lady, good on her for shopping there. I'm 42 and already have written it off from my shops to go into so I must pay it another visit (first in about eight years).

That blazer is quite stylish and I think would suit many age groups.

I can easily see how it would look sophisticated on somebody with grey / silver / white hair.

My MIL is 75, goes to the gym on a daily basis and has a figure to die for.

That's a brilliant blazer. I'm 52 and shop in RI, Topshop and Zara in the main. I have to really be firm with myself and find things that are age appropriate. I'm seeing more and more older women in these shops and it gives me hope that you don't have to be invisible and beige once you hit 50. Women like your MIL show it's totally possible to still be fashionable without being muttony.

I ventured into River Island today for the first time in about 10 years and bought some really nice skinny jeans. I'm pushing 40.

My exMIL is 70 this year, although don't tell her that, she'll shoot you. Grin

She is always spectacularly dressed, looks stunning, and frankly puts my 21 self to shame.
