was looking forward to my h&m clothes order coming, it got here today and everything i ordered is going back, im sz 14/16 ordered 4 different pairs of trousers to try on, 2 sz 14 and 2 sz 16 so i was sure to get into 1 of them.

not even the 16 went past my knees, i even think the 18 would be too small?
i know theyve got worse but to go up 3 dress sizes?? cant just be me and my baby weight can it?

A size 14 in H&M is a size 12 everywhere else, a size 16 would be a 14.

It's something to do with european sizing. So a european size 38 is a 10 in most other shops but is a 12 in H&M. Not sure why.

really? i find them quite generously cut. i am normally a 6 in most shops but find i can get into a 2 quite easily there

juuuuuuuust kidding, someone always posts crap like that and i wanted it to be me this time grin

i don't even look at sizes anymore just try what fits

3mily Thu 01-Nov-12 22:53:56

H&M is one of the worst ones for me.

chibi Thu 01-Nov-12 22:54:01

or what looks like it fits. their sizing is done by a blindfolded dipsomaniac throwing darts at a customised size chart dartboard

VladIIIDracula Thu 01-Nov-12 23:06:22

Lol @ chibi

You nearly had me going then

H+M sizes are just plain WEIRD! I'm a 10 most places but can rarely get into a 12 there.. except their tops which seem to be massive! I don't buy their trousers any more.

Mind you I tried on a skirt and cardigan in Fatface yesterday.. and had to get a 6..(I am NOT a 6) skirt and a 14 top!! I'm 5 ft 7 and 9 stone 4.... and definitely not top heavy (sadly).

I wish they would just all get together and standardise sizes!

I would say tops are normal but i have given up even trying on bottoms in H&M.

FunBagFreddie Fri 02-Nov-12 04:27:42

Ikwym. I have bought bottoms in a 10 to 12 from H&M, but last time I went I tried on a pair of trousers and the 12 didn't fit. The 14 didn't fit either, but the 16 did. I'm pretty certain I'm not a size 16. They were low rise and didn't do up round my hips and I'm not even pear shaped.

VIX1980 Fri 02-Nov-12 06:40:16

Oh glad its not just me then, i measured the sz 14 waist it was 28 inches??? seriously for a size 14, id love that if it was true.

i tried a dress on last week in there, just plain strapless dress, size 14, the bottom half was more like size 18 literally hanging of me but the top was like a size 8, just went to each side of my body, very weird!

the tops i ordered were all massive though which makes it stranger, i know there european sizes but still to have a dress thats 4 sizes dfferent on top and bottom????

SpottyTeacakes Fri 02-Nov-12 06:45:15

I've got two tops in the same style but different colours (maternity) one is loose and one I can't even roll the sleeves up hmm

FunBagFreddie Fri 02-Nov-12 06:50:20

I find the tops are come up huge and the bottoms come up small. It's not even my shape, because I'm a well endowed apple, so this just shouldn't be the case.

charlieandlola Fri 02-Nov-12 07:03:51

I agree - their tops are sized huge and the trousers are about 3 suzes too small

FrightRunScream Fri 02-Nov-12 07:21:17

I find that the trousers in places like H&M and Zara are not really designed for ladies you have had babies. I once asked an assistant in Sara yo explain their sizing. She did, then helpfully added "But of course, our largest sizes would not fit you". At my biggest I am 16!

NoWayNoHow Fri 02-Nov-12 07:22:02

If their kids clothes are anything to by, then they're definitely getting bigger! 5yo DS used to fit their clothes (although the waists have always been a bit big, but he's a bit of a wiry kid), but now the 3/4yo trousers are miles too big.

bigpants103 Fri 02-Nov-12 07:41:11

I think ordering online at h&M can be a gamble as the sizes are so all oveer the place. I'm a 14 most places and I tried an 18 that was too small but bought a small in something else.

Not even the same item in the same size are always the same. Have to compare and see which fits. I always try a lot on in H&M before buying anything.

FunBagFreddie Fri 02-Nov-12 07:42:42

The sizing is so variable in Zara with the trousers and jeans. I can't order online, cause I just never know what size I'll get and they only come in extra long. I used to love Zara, but I've gone off it recently.

Why do H&M have tiny bottoms and massive tops? I thought they were meant to do European sizing. Women on the continent aren't ridiculously top heavy, are they?

FunnyLittleFrog Fri 02-Nov-12 08:24:00

Sizes are bizarre - but that's what you get in such a cheap shop. I do love H&M but it's one you need to actually visit and try things on in. Online is risky (and delivery takes forever too).

FrightRunScream Fri 02-Nov-12 10:12:12

Ordering online from H&M is a gamble as to whether it will actually turn up!

Toffeeapple21 Fri 02-Nov-12 10:34:11

I always need to go up 1 or 2 sizes in h&m.
I am size 6 or 8 in other shops but always need 10 in h&m

germyrabbit Fri 02-Nov-12 10:42:46

tops are really all over the place, i got a jacket there size 18! am usually a 14

FunnyLittleFrog Fri 02-Nov-12 10:47:29

I have a size 8 jacket and size 16 trousers and I am straight up and down - not a walking triangle.

ChablisLover Fri 02-Nov-12 11:13:31

i bought a pair of trousers recently from online

ordered up and bought a 14 - they would not go over my knees!

so back they go!

I'm a 10-12 everywhere else

Pinot Fri 02-Nov-12 11:44:57

<dies from happiness that it's not just me>

VIX1980 Fri 02-Nov-12 20:36:09

grin @ PINOT

me too though, swapped my usual sz 14's for sz 18 and they were snug, sz 20 fitted on the waist and bum but made me look like mc hammer everywere else shock
