What jacket/coat/top layer with black jersey mini?

I wonder if anyone can help me. I'm a bit bored of jeans and have been trying to refind my style since having DS 8 months ago. I've discovered a black jersey mini which looks good with opaques, brown boots and then a thin jumper/scarf (well I think it looks good - does this sound ok? I'm 28 and a size 10).

The only thing today was that it was too cold really to just wear jumper and scarf, and none of my coats seemed to go. Coat wise I've got a navy military (ish) style coat which is about hip length or a quicksilver grey zip up hooded top (very skiing style). I was looking around the shops but I couldn't really work out what would go - I was thinking possibly a gilet and then wear a thicker jumper?

Ooh - I had thought of a leather bomber, do you think brown/tan would look better than black? (I'm not a fan of black head to toe for day wear). I have got a small jersey blazer as well which I hadn't thought of using - I suppose if I layer and make sure I wear gloves etc. that would probably be warm enough unless it was really really cold.

Brown would be nice, but I would go with black and brighten it up with a scarf.
