What will you be wearing? I fancy a knee length velvet dress, Aubergine colour haven't seen one anywhere have you?

BloooCowWonders Sat 27-Oct-12 15:32:38

I'd have to have the sleeveless version Chippy! I get so overheated with all the wine cooking but I love the idea of aubergine. One of my favourite colours

oh fod fucks sake no

Inneedofbrandy Sat 27-Oct-12 15:57:14

No I can't take velvet its like nails on a chalk board for me. I've got a black and gold jumpsuit or I'm debating a red dress but not velvet.

Arf at Maureen.

Inneedofbrandy Sat 27-Oct-12 18:55:01

Is this a joke LOL

I read once that a velvet dress at Christmas is only ok if you're under 10 and being taken to watch the nutcracker.

I don't mind if you wear a velvet dress, but it has stuck with me for at least ten years.

Chippychop Sat 27-Oct-12 19:48:52

No seemingly according to so mag I read in the hairdressers.... It's right in! Watch me and the turkey cut a dash with the Xmas sherry wink

Only burgandy/aubergine velvet if you don't need to do any work (like cooking) otherwise your face will attractively tone with your frock.

Ruprekt Sat 27-Oct-12 20:09:40

g'wan, get it!

changeforthebetter Sat 27-Oct-12 20:14:33

I wore an aubergine velvet dress to a party when 7 months pg. In the photos I looked like a demented aubergine! This colour only works if you a very Celtic or afro Caribbean. Too hot unless your Christmas is in some vast open plan venue with someone else doing all the work and the drinking

Startailoforangeandgold Sat 27-Oct-12 20:31:28

DD has pinched my cheap, comfy crushed velvet dress. She's 14 not 10

Chippychop Sat 27-Oct-12 22:58:27

Lordy me [ruprekt] I'd look like a true sloane ranger a fit right in with modem spring 2013 look! Change of heart! You have convinced me.... What shall I wear not joules or Boden or dweeby frumpy....I need funky mum/come über hostess whilst basting the turkey !

I love the idea of Christmas velvet but doubt I'd pull it off.

I've been nervously eyeing these:
Green velvet vamp

blue velvet swing

MaureenCognito Sun 28-Oct-12 06:57:44

Why? Why not wear luxe pyjamas.
Really you're thinking too hard

MrsCampbellBlack Sun 28-Oct-12 07:01:39

You need washable for christmas day - so much goose fat and it would ruin velvet/silk etc.

However I like to dress up but have my parents this year and my mother really doesn't do glamour so I will be totally overdressed as per.

I rather like that green vamp dress...

what about this one? wink

I'd do it but then I like panné velvet. Not the thick, stiff stuff though.

Thumbwitch Sun 28-Oct-12 07:12:09

stores.ebay.co.uk/rowanscloset I have bought this long velvet dress in red from this place before, it's fantastic and a very good price. If you come back to the link in a couple of weeks' time, you might be able to get a look at it, if you're interested. It only took a couple of weeks to get it through.

Mewsical Sun 28-Oct-12 07:47:11

Mint velvet?

MaureenCognito Sun 28-Oct-12 07:49:25

Like the idea of mv one. Bet it hangs badly though

Mewsical Sun 28-Oct-12 11:43:36

Boden - I keep randomly coming across them!
