Looking for tweedy or black shorts to go over tights that aren't tight on thighs

for this kind of look (but with ankle boots or ballet flats, not knee high boots)

Has anyone seen any nice ones? I'd prefer high-ish waisted ones that are loose round the thighs, not hotpant style ones.

Honestly I haven't seen anyone looking good in this look. Even the 15-17 year olds rarely have the thighs for it. Shorts for women, tights or not, are a fashion bear-trap IMHO.

You have no idea what my thighs are like! I'm 30, 5'5" and size 6-8. I'm looking for ones that aren't tight on the thighs because that's the look I'm after, not because I can't squeeze mine into most shorts.

Sorry for the not-exactly-a-stealth boast btw.

Go for it OP, I bet you'll look great! Talk about pissing on someone's bonfire.

Ha, thanks Amber! I was only asking if anyone had seen any nice ones around, not asking for judgement plus I'm a 12 year old at heart and have loved shorts over tights ever since the early 90s

I do get my legs out a lot - I've earned them through lots of dancing...and don't have much else to flaunt Grin

Confused at what I was trying to say Envy at being able to wear those shorts

Primark had some, lots of colours and patterns, £12 iirc
I got a couple of pairs, and they aren't thigh hugging at all, but my size 14 arse is very Envy of your skinny thighs lol

Ooh thank you Lainey. I like the Asos ones. I haven't a snowballs of ever affording YSL but they are lovely. I think they're probably a bit long overall to look good on me though, I'd need a few more inches.

No me either! The asos ones are lovely - if I ever manage to pull my finger out and lose some weight I will be first in line for shorts and tights.

You did ask if anyone had seen any nice ones! My answer was a massive no, but if it works for you, go forth and flash those trim thighs with my blessing! Grin

I'm 31, same size, and still rock the shorts over tights look. I even wore them with a baby bump!

No useful info, just wanted to provide some solidarity Grin

Oh right, it sounded more like you were criticising people's thighs than the look in general. I agree it has to be done tastefully - dark wintery colours, slouchy top half, properly opaque tights etc.

I LOVE Zooey Deschanel's look here (3rd pic down)

Think I need either black or very dark tweedy/wool ones.

I am loving these and I'm ahem 40.

I am criticising their thighs. I'd be inviting criticism of my pasty, wobbly, stretch-marked thighs if I got 'em out!

Few people can manage it and I have seen many wearing them erroneously. Opaques (if thick enough, another issue round here) will cover the colour but they don't stop the wobble. It's a muffin-top-era-esque disaster near me. People going for the trend rather than what suits them, the age old issue.

Fair enough milky I haven't seen many people wearing the look irl.

They are gorgeous MrsCampbellBlack! Do you have them? What's the sizing like? Not that I'm tempted to spend £85 on shorts Shock

If you have good toned legs age doesn't matter

Report
NotAnIdiotHonest · 22/10/2012 12:57

DEFINITELY noddy. A woman got on the bus today who was around 65 I would say, wearing a knee length skirt and v nice high heels and her legs were so lovely and toned you couldn't stop looking at them. (Well I couldn't, but I do have a leg muscle fetish from doing ballet all my life.)
