bad one

BabblingWreckSimianBrain Sat 20-Oct-12 09:30:44

I'm similar age and wouldn't dream of shopping there. But maybe the young 'uns here think it would be entirely appropriate for doddering 50 y/o' s wink

I remember about 25 yrs ago , a colleague of dh's telling me she shopped there...I was shocked as she was only in her 20's.
Wonder where she shops now ? Edinburgh woolen mill?

ggirl Sat 20-Oct-12 09:40:54

blouses and longish skirts iirc
laura ashley style was all the rage then but cc was definitely not on my radar then

I am now on some sort of fucking codgers mailing list.
I get four or five catalogues a week from companies with names like 'the woollen emporium' featuring women with rictus smiles wearing awful clothes that would go in the 'for christsake, we will take foreign coins for this shit' bin at the charity shop.

Last week I got a letter about funeral plans.

I sat in a meeting this week with glossy young fings who said things like "well, obviously this typeface wouldn't appeal to anyone over 40", muttering "oh yes it would" even though it didn't because I thought it looked tacky .

noddyholder Sat 20-Oct-12 10:32:08

I think you needthis

That is quite unspeakable.

For the record, today I am wearing a pair of Levi demi-curve straight jeans, a turquoise linen tunic originally from M&S but purchased from the charity shop and a long-sleeved Uniqlo heat tech purply-pink top underneath. I imagine the rest of you look equally presentable, dammit.

Pagwatch Sat 20-Oct-12 10:41:08

Stop laugh Pinotblahblahblah - it comes to us all Missy!

Yes, I am very presentable. Cacharel dress, Kurt Geiger boots dammit!

Fuck you Edinburgh mill.

ggirl Sat 20-Oct-12 10:52:35

slobbing in gap black long sleeve T and M&S jeggings ...aaargh the jeggings!!! slippery slope?!?!?!

ggirl Sat 20-Oct-12 10:54:03

motherinferior Sat 20-Oct-12 10:56:16

No, we're supposed to be wearing Respectable Ladyclothes. Lots of beige. 'Nude' mid-heeled courts. Shirt collars showing over our crew-necked sweaters.

It is an English middle-aged lady look that DP's English aunt (now an Old Lady, obvs) manages. I personally find it quite unfathomable. I suspect I myself am seguing into Middle Aged Eccentric, but that's OK by me if I can keep it on the arty-Toast-y end of the spectrum...

motherinferior Sat 20-Oct-12 10:56:50

Lady jeans. Ironed ones. Possibly with a crease down the front.

noddyholder Sat 20-Oct-12 10:59:52

I am 47 next month shit!

travailtotravel Sat 20-Oct-12 11:01:15

I had a suit from CC given to me by a well meaning rellie who didn't want it but doesn't believe in charity shops. So I've been trying to ebay it. Nobody wants it ... someone bought it in the end for £5. That's how much the world thinks of their "style".

motherinferior Sat 20-Oct-12 11:04:16

And I bet the person who got it, was desperately in need of something to wear to an interview.

ggirl Sat 20-Oct-12 11:06:32

just you wait noddy ....artiagno awaits

noddyholder Sat 20-Oct-12 11:10:47

I am not giving in too easy! I have skinny jeans on today and semi sheer top you can even see my bra shock
