I want this one

but recently went up north and a lot of young 'less than classy' girls wearing barbour.

Whats the general feeling? I dont want to spend £170 on a trashy coat

Everlong Wed 10-Oct-12 21:25:40

Probably.

I've got one wink

The one you linked to is fine. The one that people wear to do the school run in their white 4x4 is as common as muck where I am. Think it has Barbour International gold letters on the front.

Toughasoldboots Wed 10-Oct-12 21:27:23

Me too, Barbour international. It's a bit of a uniform round here now.

bangersmashandbeans Wed 10-Oct-12 21:27:28

I think they are a classic and not chavvy at all. Might depend where you are I guess? In Surrey they are very 'in' and I've only seen smart 30+ yr olds wearing them.

Inneedofbrandy Wed 10-Oct-12 21:28:32

There upper class chavvy

PorkyandBess Wed 10-Oct-12 21:28:53

They are, horribly so.

mosschops30 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:33:09

Thats the one ive seen chavs wearing, with yellow barbour stamped across the front

bureni Wed 10-Oct-12 21:34:27

Barbour has gone downhill a lot in the last few years though they were never in the same league as Belstaff, frankly their coats are very overpriced and nothing special when you can buy a lot better for half the price.

Toughasoldboots Wed 10-Oct-12 21:35:29

I am a Chav then smile

their rare where I am (East Anglia) I have one.. but... I've had Barbour for years for riding in.. so a bit peeved their fashionable now..
I went to Liverpool recently and had never seen so many non outside countryside type people wearing barbours..
I do love mine.. apart from I recently got asked by a checkout girl where I got my coat from and how much it cost me!!

Barbour is most certainly not chavvy.

However, the jacket you have linked to is a style that I would associate with chavviness.

Inneedofbrandy Wed 10-Oct-12 21:36:51

If it's the name you want, get a smelly green wax one. Will last you the whole of your life to without looking chavvy.

mosschops30 Wed 10-Oct-12 21:38:13

I want something warm, showerproof and smart for work so liked the look of the one ive linked to

bureni Wed 10-Oct-12 21:43:56

Mosschops buy an Australian "Outback" branded coat, superior to Barbour in every way and cost a lot less. My last Barbour leaked after 5 minutes and fell to bits in under a year.

Everlong Wed 10-Oct-12 21:55:22

I bought the chavvy yellow badged one international the other week on a whim.

I wasn't thinking about a Barbour but tried one on and it looked lovely plus ds get military discount on Barbour so thought why not

It feels nice, it's smart and warm. My friend has a fake one and I can tell the difference.

bangersmashandbeans Wed 10-Oct-12 22:02:25

I think the trouble with the quilted ones is that there are so many copies. I have a black fitted wax one and it's lovely and I've never seen a fake one like it.

dexter73 Wed 10-Oct-12 22:03:39

I now have an overwhelming desire to wear my barbour tomorrow and hang out in Maccy D's flicking chips at people!

LittleFrieda Wed 10-Oct-12 22:08:34

The ones with Liberty linings are beautiful. I don't much care for the one you linked to.

chipstick10 Wed 10-Oct-12 22:56:00

I have the old fashioned camilla parker bowels style, i cant wear it, blush

Freshbloodletticia Wed 10-Oct-12 23:11:57

No and thrice no! To the horrible quilted ones.
The only acceptable Barbours are the green waxed jackets. Seriously. The rest are def chavvy.

Brycie Wed 10-Oct-12 23:13:35

I think less chavvy if 25 years old and covered in mud. I'm hoping.

Brycie Wed 10-Oct-12 23:14:27

Sorry must disagree with you about green. Brown here, and not just because of the mud.

Bumblequeen Wed 10-Oct-12 23:21:33

This is the first I have heard of Barbour - shows how in tune with fashion I am lol!

Toughasoldboots Wed 10-Oct-12 23:29:38

I need to perfect my Croydon facelift for accessorising mine tomorrow.
