I was looking for a fox print scarf and 95% of the results were genuine fox collars/scarfs complete with heads & legs.

I am of the opinion that the animal is dead now, so nothing much you can do about it now so no real problem as its not supporting a growing trade.

However, you could never own something like that and wear it out on the street without people giving dirty looks or wanting to beat you for it.

Just thought I'd share

It's cultural. Go to Italy or Russia in the winter, everyone wears fur.

In Paris even the buses are heaving with women in really beautiful fur coats.

Why is it so terrible in uk then?

We wear leather shoes and belts, eat meat yet fur is a big no no

I'm not sure. There is something deliciously primal about wearing fur!

It's terrible because in order to get the coat off in pristine condition the animal is skinned alive sad. The farming techniques are hideous too, animals starved so that the skin becomes loose and comes off quick.

In leather the cattle are bolt killed for meat and the hide is a by product.

I have a fur coat, great grandmothers from 1910 and I couldn't throw it out as it would be wasted.

I wouldn't buy new though for the reasons above.

I would make one myself from quickly shot rabbits though.
