Recommendations for make-up for oily skin

My skin has always been oily but since having kids it's terrible. I have tried numerous foundations and face powders but nothing keeps my skin matt looking. Within a couple of hours my forehead looks v shiny.

Has anyone got recommendations for making-up oily skin?

A good primer, I use MAC spf 50 prep and prime, and it really helps keep the foundation from sliding off. I've tried lots of others and always go back to this one.

Foundations I like are (ranging from expensive to mid-range to cheap) are Guerlain Parure Extreme, Estee Lauder Double Wear, Vichy Dermablend, Revlon colorstay and Rimmel 25 hours.

I still have to blot a couple of times a day with all of these. You can buy little books of blotting sheets from Boots.

But basically, use a decent primer and a foundation that is specifically designed to be long wearing. Any foundation I've tried that isn't just turns into an oily mess and slides off my face within hours.

Sorting out my skin care has helped a bit, and I'm not as bad as I was.

I tried primer after reading mumsnet advice & use Laura Mercier primer, with Boots no.7 bb cream for oily skin/fair to sort out my bad skin & rosy/unevenness. Far more natural look than bare minerals tho that was favourite before. Ask for samples/make-up at counter before you buy Smile. LM lasts for ages

Or Estée Lauder invisible for coverage days - like a mask compared with bb cream

I find primer and lilo lolo mineral foundation the best combination for my oil slick. It's drying out a bit now I'm over 50 so I recently tried Benefit and Dior liquid foundation. The Benefit just seems to drip off me. The Dior is better but every time I put it on DP comments how tired and washed out I look and asks if I'm ok!!!!!! So I've gone back to primer and then the lilo lolo and it's definitely the best (and the cheapest.) Absolutely get samples. I've just wasted a small fortune experimenting :(

On the plus side of greasy skin, my Mum and Grandma told me I'd not get bad wrinkles. Don't know if that's an old wives tale but so far (wrong side of 52) I've got very few.

Thanks. I'll try and get some testers.

Out of interest what skin care routines work for you guys?

I like La Roche Posay Effaclar stuff. You can get it in boots for 3 for 2 at the moment.

I like Boots Hot Cloth Cleanser and the Boots No 7 day and night moisturisers for older skin. Briefly swapped the moisturiser for Benefit one and found it way too greasy.

Smashbox primer
Long wear foundation

For touch ups during the day don't load your face with more powder or use those blotting pads. Use these Kleenesx tissuey things, they're much better

I just blot with a clean tissue - don't rub though! I'm in the same boat, since turning 40 my skin seems to be getting much oilier - have recently tried neutrogena spot control face scrub (good morning cleanser, will stick with this one) but am really struggling to find a good make up removing cleanser (I like a rinse off wash) Tried neutrogena pink grapefruit wash (didn't get a warm & fuzzy, it just doesn't lather up much and didn't seem to take my make up off properly - could be our very hard water though) vichy normaderm and thermal (will try the normaderm again, liked the face wash) and currently using No 7 oily skin face wash - not overwhelmed, a shame because i really like their day & night face creams. I used to use a Clarins one for sensitive skin but they discontinued it.

I do like the new No 7 foundation that they match to your skin - the mattifying one gives good coverage but is a bit aging, the perfect one is a good day-to-day one. very good colour match.

I'm getting on quite well with Clinique BB cream at the moment.
