Brogues- black patent or black leather?

Am eyeing up some brogues in Clarks and not sure whether patent would be a bit OTT for my lifestyle! Taking kids to the park etc.

Any thoughts?

Are they the hamble? I've ordered the tan ones.
I love tan leather, it goes with everything.
Patent makes things fun!

Leather. I got some black and white patent/or patent effect ones about six months ago and the toes looked horrible after one week with scratched/peeling.

They weren't by Clarkes though

They are hamble! Nice aren't they!

Hmmm heart saying patent - head saying leather.....

Right I've retrieved them from my neighbour.
They are lovely, good quality and will stop me wearing converse all the time.
I'm rocking them with skinnies rolled up to ankle grazer levels.
They'll go with dresses too I think.
There's a 20% off code knocking about.

I've got these. (I know they aren't black, but they do come in black.). They are so comfortable, I think they are the only shoes I have had for ages that haven't rubbed, and I have really, really skinny legs and they don't look daft with opaques and skirts. I've worn them loads and the pâtent hasn't marked at all.

I'm thinking about buying these.

I wanted the patent, until I saw them in real life where I didn't like the black or the patent. I got the tan and they are gorgeous Smile

I have the tan hamble ones. Love them! I like the wine patent ones but the shininess isn't me really.

Arrgh ordered the patent about an hour ago. Did use the code though, so cost practically nothing Grin

May have to buy the tan ones later and tell DH I've had them for years

I love the patent but worry about scratching them. How do you polish patent shoes?

Patent or tan, every other Y7 has Clarks black leather brogues as school shoes!

They do look nice, vastly better than scruffy ballet pumps.

How funny - I tried these very ones on (both the tan and the black patent) this afternoon. I wanted the patent, but they didn't have them in a 4.5, so I shall use the code and get them now - I bloody love mumsnet!

I have the black Hamble's, in patent.
Love them, but they do seem to be sized a little bit large, I think.

Dexter good question, I didn't know, but Good Housekeeping suggest vaseline and a soft cloth.

You can buy special polish for patent leather, Clarks will sell it, too. It is a kind of neutral polish so can be used on all your patent leather items, even handbags, etc

I am wearing my tan hambles for the first time today - I ummed and aahed for ages about getting them, but already love them! They feel great on (both comfort wise and style wise) and I'm really glad I went for tan not black to avoid the school-shoe effect. I cna see them becoming a real wardrobe staple. Tempted by the reddy colour now...!

DD2s black school brogues are my size, so I really, really can't have a some. However, tempting some patent ones are, she'd just borrow them when she was late for the bus.

I picked her up from dancing to find her in my nice trainers, Angry
