Going on holiday to Rome at the end of October... sartorially challenged

DH has got us a great deal on what looks like a vair upmarket hotel, so I'm not sure I'm going to feel right in my normal jeans and comfortable suede shoes.

Not sure what the weather is likely to be doing either, so I'm a bit perplexed what I should take.

In particular, I could do with some footwear which is really comfortable for lots of sightseeing but looks OK (doesn't need to be fashionable as such) - pref with a bit of a heel because my smarter jeans are a bit long for total flats.

I'm 5'1" and size 10-12 depending on brand.

Any inspirations welcome.

I'm going to Sorrento tomorrow for a week. We're going to Rome for the day on Tuesday. I've just packed : jeans, cotton trousers, cotton tops, thin cashmere jumpers, stone -coloured leather jacket from reiss , scarves, waterproof jacket (rain can be torrential in October in Sorrento) and dresses for evening. Heeled sandals, flat sandals and timberland suede trainers for feet.

Although it's still a lot warmer than a typical Scottish Summer's day, the Italians dress for autumn.

i went to Rome last month. i worried about how i would compare against beautiful Italian women, but to be honest there were so many tourists around that I felt ok.
just focus on REALLY comfy shoes. oh and pack plasters (I walked my toes off Smile )

Recently came back from 2 and a half weeks there and my advice is the same . Comfy shoes are first priority - trainers or Converse style are fine.

Dont worry about jeans. Romes full of tourists - and thus style crimes - so, as long as you are happy with how you look, you can be sure you'll look better than most of them.

I wore dresses almost all time because so hot and just wore things suitable for cities rather than holiday resorts. ( plain colours not garish patterns).
Have been to Rome in late Oct and had warm sunny weather, so would take some layers etc to allow for that possibility - though the Romsns will all have gone into their down jackets and cashmere by then!

Nice shoes...wouldn't look quite right with my jeans but these below might well fit the bill if they're as comfortable as they look.

Thanks all for the ideas..hope you enjoy Rome and Sorrento Smile

Yes - after posting, DH said,'of course the hotel will probably be full of americans so you probably don't need to be that smart' Grin. He may have just been trying to divert me from a shopping spree (not something I do often)

I was in Rome a couple of Octobers ago. The Italian women were all dressed in skinny jeans tucked into long riding boots with a puffa jacket. I felt a bit foolish in short sleeves but it was boiling.

There will be loads of tourists as others have said, so I wouldn't worry too much.
