Ok, where is the brilliant 'Warm and waterproof coat' thread from last year? I need another one.

I bought an amazing coat by Didriksons last year on the advice of a MNetter here who worked in the industry. She gave the BEST advice but I can't find the thread now. Basically she explained how warm AND waterproof is a hard combination to come by because we're the only country with such a wet and cold climate and no one designs for us. Nice.

I bought the coat for DS but ended up wearing it myself, now I need to buy him one of his own before he gets soaked to the skin!

snort grin

Dont you love the penis pants tho!!! That was a link copy from weeks ago. V weird!

I like Rebecca but I think something longer would be better, this is my wet weather coat after all, found it for £180 but can't justify that. Naomi is a contender, same price as insulated Merrell Wakefield but charcoal option.

Decisions Decisions!

Morris sorry for not answering your question about the feel of it. It's a bit rough in texture but it is quite lightweight material and not inflexible or rubbery like some waterproofs. V hard to's nothing like the material in my DH or DC's coats - more materially...than plasticy.. I give up on the explanations now ;)

OMG - I never clicked that there were penises all over those trousers...from a distance, they looked quite nice smile

Does anyone know if Didrikson come up on the slightly larger size across all of their women's coats? I'm a curvy 14 but working on reducing said curves slowly but surely ;) I don't tend to wear thick jumpers so won't need masses of room, have reasonable noorkage but not excessive... Think I'm a bit smitten with Naomi smile

Viking Kids is more ££ but they have the eggplant colour which is also v v nice

kiwidreamer Tue 25-Sep-12 14:07:06

Viking kids say Didrikson are on generous side sizing wise if anyone else was curious smile

Kiwi - The rebecca is roomy, esp across the shoulders and in the sleeves... BUT i have the waist done on the tightest button and there isn't much wriggle room.. I am a 10/12/5ft6. You could have less waist definition and it would fit a larger size (there is a tab on each waist side with three poppers to adjust according to comfort).

The sleeves are really long with a lovely wrist warmer built in underneath.

It comes to mid thigh on me and dips at the back so longer on the bottom.

Complete outdoors had one in stock the other week when I checked?

actiongirl1978 Tue 25-Sep-12 14:18:31

Oh I should have said, I ordered a 38.

PestoSandalissimos Tue 25-Sep-12 14:21:15

I'm short too, and I got the

Stadium Squall coat in Petite from Lands End.

T'is marvellous smile

Anyone looking for alonger length waterproof with a bit of shape, I'd really recommend this, the Craghoppers Nariko.

I've just bought it from Go Outdoors for £85. I got the brown one but now I wish I'd seen the purple! It's a generous fit, padded so warm and cosy but not too bulky, and it kept the rain out all day yesterday! I'm really pleased with it smile

sheeplikessleep Tue 25-Sep-12 16:43:55

Ooh thanks pesto

OttersPocket Tue 25-Sep-12 17:21:25

Oh I'm loving the Didriksons Naomi - does anyone know if it would match-up or exceed the Merrell's warmth? I need to be warm!

Mollydoggerson Tue 25-Sep-12 18:38:33

marking space on thread.

AgathaFusty Tue 25-Sep-12 18:41:27

It's a longer length one I'm looking for Jojay, but I think a bit thicker than the one you linked to. Would prefer a parker style if poss. It needs to be seriously warm though!

BrennieGirl Tue 25-Sep-12 19:49:46

Any of you ladies who have bought the Lands End Squall Coat, how do you find the fit. They come in 16-18 and 20-22. I'm a well endowed 18, so not sure what size to go for. I hate when clothes are sized like that.

Drywhiteplease Tue 25-Sep-12 19:57:18

Penis pants?!!!!!grin where?
I have the black I insulated Wakefield by Merrell on Schhol Gatestyle recommendation.......I queued/gossiped with friend by the fish and chip van for 10 mins this eve in pouring NE rain (terrible mother couldn't be bothered to cook for kids........^blows rasbberry and does rude jesture at Daily Mail^!)and was lovely and dry underneath. Best investment ever......and looks chic. Shame the new version doesn't have the pleating detail on sleeve and big popper details.

Drywhiteplease Tue 25-Sep-12 19:57:49

Oops grin

year2mum Tue 25-Sep-12 20:07:04

I have had the Merrell Wakefield for a couple of years now -it is waterproof, fitted, comfy and looks good but just not warm enough for the North East in the winter so purchased a North Face Parka last year - it is sooo warm and cosy though pricey. Would recommend both coats - but love the look of the Naomi also!!!

Oooh, this is exactly the thread I needed!

I hate being cold almost as much as I hate wearing 'traditional' raincoats.

So, Merrell Wakefield, Didrikson's Naomi and North Face Parka are all recommended? Which is the most fashionable?

Any thoughts on the Barbour Parka?

MacyGracy Tue 25-Sep-12 21:57:13

On the great advice of you lovely ladies I have just bought the Didrikson Rebecca in black from Amazon for £121, is that a bargain?

Mewsical Tue 25-Sep-12 22:12:23

Brennie-My sis (16-usually 18) has bought 2 LE coats and sent the (recommended by me) 16-18s back for the larger size, oops. They are generous IME but if you are large up top they might be snug.

Mewsical Tue 25-Sep-12 22:13:27

I am freezing in my Wakefield!!!! It is not insulated though.

I just discovered the Merrell Haven. Thoughts?

kiwidreamer Tue 25-Sep-12 22:22:59

From why I've heard I think it's warm and shower proof but I don't think it's proper super waterproof - I could be wrong tho!

I just realised I didn't discover it at all; I read about it earlier on this thread blush
