Bleaching hair

I've decided I really want turquoise hair, and as my hair is dark brown right now that means bleaching. In the past when I've dyed my hair I haven't had to worry too much about the bleach turning me ginger, as I've only ever dyed it red or pink. Obviously for turquoise I need as white a base as possible. Which is going to be hard when my hair has very red undertones.

I'm confident dying my hair at home, but I'm wondering a few things,
a) would it work out cheaper at home or at a salon?
b) are there any tricks for doing it at home?
c) how do I stop it frying my hair?

Have you bleached your hair before? It's much harder than dyeing because it's more like painting your hair. You can't rub it in like a shampoo. You need a friend with good attention to detail to do it for you. It's best done on greasy hair too

If you have ever dyed your hair, it will go orange. You may need to bleach it twice. If your hair is dark brown, it's going to fry it. Lots of rich conditioner and the actual turquoise dye should help, but it won't be the same.

Ohh, and you won't need it white as a base. Just much lighter will do.

Oh yes, many times. It always end up this shade, which I can't help feeling is a little too ginger to apply turquoise to.

I think it will work on that colour. Depending on how light you want the turquoise to be.

Anyway, if it was too dark once the turquoise is on, you could always bleach it again when it's washed out. The gap between bleaching might keep it from being too fried.

How long is your hair though? If it's a bob then I'd blast it with two lots of 40 vol bleach, but longer and you might want to be more gentle.
