DH persuaded me to buy some gorgeous navy wedge pumps a few wks back, their lovely, but unsure if I can get away with them with my 2 lovely black jersey dresses... If I have navy (thinking patterned) tights will it all pull together ok?! Am hoping I can avoid having to get them in black too (although maybe could ask for them as Xmas pressie!)
Am open to the wise S&B board advice :-)

No, I can't see that looking well put together at all, sorry grin

OP, this question comes up fairly regularly and usually I am the only person who yes 'Yes'! I love the combination of navy and black, but you have to do it with conviction so you don't look like you got dressed in the dark IYSWIM

I think the key when you are wearing dark colours, is to mix your textures to stop your outfit from looking flat. So, your patterned tights would be perfect, or opaques with a sheen to them. You need something else navy to finish it off, blazer, bag, scarf, and a nice texture so maybe a velvet blazer, silk scarf or patent bag. I have a black patent bag with navy suede trim that I wear on my black & navy days. Or keep an eye out for a black/navy patterned scarf, something that pulls it all together.

You will look tres chic smile

Verity thank you!

Navy scarf sounds much cheaper option than a new pair of shoes & can picture it all pulling together well smile
heads off to look back @ the MN scarf thread

Agree navy and black is very chic. Also agree with Verity that it needs to look "planned" - I think that having more than one navy piece helps (and I am nodding enthusiastically at the idea of a navy and black scarf), but it's also good if your navy is more blue than black IFYWIM.

I like brown/tan and navy, but I think the combination is inherently more casual than black and navy.

Thanks for the reply lofty!

OP I saw this scarf today and it reminded me of this thread, the blue is darker in RL

Hi Julia, your link isn't working for me.

Am ver taken with navy and black, I would go so far as to say I think it's genius, what's not to love, and am planning on wearing it much this winter. Your scarf sounds like my final jigsaw piece! Will you link again? Thanks!
