New season shopping for HOC Winters

I had my colours done earlier this year and was 'diagnosed' as a Winter (the consultant said 'ice bright winter' / 'sprinter'). I bought a few tops in my colours for the summer - Chinese blue, fuchsia, royal purple - and feel more radiant in the right colours.

I haven't got many clothes in my colours for the cooler weather, everything in my wardrobe is more suited to autumns - beiges, browns and earthy tones.

Please help me find some beautiful clothes suitable for Winters. I have some money saved that I can use to buy clothes - I see them as an investment because I know I would be buying something that suits me! Would also appreciate ideas for accessories, particularly scarves - I love them but I'm hopeless at choosing them. I am a size 8-10, 5'5" with a belly that is more wobbly than I would like! I work part time and need smart-casual clothes (must wear skirts for work) and have a toddler, so something practical for days off and weekends.

Looking forward to your suggestions!

This may be a stupid suggestion but you will have richest pickings when it's really winter - wait a bit more? I'm a Summer and my colors are always easiest to find in summer (2nd best time - after Christmas). Early autumn is the worst time for me - oranges, mustards, most purples, burgundies and earth tones do not look good on me.

You're probably right, Dona. It's just that after the miserable weather we had at the weekend I wanted to wrap up warm and get all cosy, then realised that I haven't got anything! I thought the shops might be getting a few new season pieces in. Forecast for this week is good though, so maybe I'll survive a bit longer! Thanks though.

Just had mine fine last week and am a 'sultry winter' so watching for inspiration. I find Hobbs have some great winter colours although not checked a/w 2012

I agree with waiting for winter, but www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/season/winter is good for now

Thanks! I'll go and have a look at Kettlewell.

I'm not that keen on kettle well. It always seems very clingy.

Can you wear greys (charcoal/dove grey etc)?

Burgundy is another winter colour and is very "in".

Peacock is also a good colour to wear.

I tend to wear lots of neutrals - black, grey, navy etc and jazz up with scarves, jewellery and nail polish. Would this work for you?

I get scarves from everywhere - fat face, gap, seasalt, primark and ebay.

Gap has some lovely jewel coloured cardigans at the moment. Think there is a code on here somewhere for discount too.

Bumping now that the weather has turned. I'm looking in particular for long sleeved jumpers / cardigans that aren't adorned with gold buttons, preferably v neck! Would be grateful for any suggestions for scarves too - all on a tight budget (I know, I don't want much)!!! Thought these would be the most versatile for work, nursery run, weekend etc.

I'm a Winter and red is one of my best colours - I've just ordered this fairisle jumper. It looks bright red in the catalogue but kind of coral online... If it's coral it's going straight back!

I've also bought this dress in the grey and the navy, both good Winter colours.

I know what you mean about the gold buttons/zips etc - they're everywhere and look so awful on us!

Have a look at uniglo, they normally have lovely extra fine merino wool in gorgeous colours!

And if you fancy spending £££ Reiss has some great emerald green things in atm: this, which is much more radiant emerald in person, and this fuchsia cardi which also comes in emerald. This china blue v neck and this rollneck which comes in aubergine and emerald.

Yes to Uniqlo Bovril, they always have good winter colours :)
