If you had a c-section in the last few weeks...

...what did you wear both in hospital, for the first few days at home for receiving visitors and then on trips out (supermarket, friends houses etc). I'm having an ELCS in 6 weeks time.

I don't really do nighties or PJs (sleep naked) but I do have some under bump maternity PJs which I gather will be no good as they will sit on the scar...am loathe to spend £££ on something I will wear for a relatively short time, but equally am quite vain and want to look good in the photos and for visitors! Blush Wearing my PJs in front of friends/in laws would be my idea of hell.

People talk about yoga pants especially the rolltop ones...would you be happy to receive visitors in these? Would you wear them in the hospital or just at home?

My maternity wardrobe has been largely dresses/tailored trousers suitable for work but would feel daft wearing these to sit around the house with a newborn! I do have a couple of pairs of over bump leggings- would these irritate the scar or be ok do you think?

Any tips/links gratefully received as am a bit clueless!

I wore standard Primark £3 leggings in the next size up, and massive cotton knickers. Also, a tip from a friend I found invaluable was having an always pant liner pressed against my scar! Have regular air drying time too by laying in the nip as much as you can!

Been a while since I had my sections but I would get a nightie for immediately after as you will have a catheter and is just easier. I took leggings over the bump for underneath.

I wore over the bump maternity jeans with that stretchy jersey panel afterwards or tracksuits/jersey bottoms - smarter than trackies i guess more yoga pant type things around the house. I found I could wear all my normal jeans within 7 days and have never had a problem with soreness of scar etc. I have never found it to be quite as awful as the rumours would have you believe! After my second c section they allowed me home within 36 hours.

I had a cs 2 1/2 weeks ago. I'm not a nightie person at all but bought a cheap one from matalan that I wore in the hospital (and I'll probably never wear again!) once I was up and out of my gown. My catheter was removed about 10 hours after the op. I was discharged after 36 hours, I wore maternity jersey trousers home and for the first few days, then I stayed in my over the bump maternity trousers until I went shopping this weekend to treat myself to some new trousers a size bigger than my pre pregnancy ones. I can also recommend big knickers! I think leggings would be fine but I like to wear tunics or dresses with leggings which would be awkward for breast feeding.

I think it does wonders for your morale to be both comfy and feel like you look good as a new mum. I took make up bag, hairdryer and straighteners with me! And that was when I was expecting a swift induction (little did I know)!

these are amazing and comfy. Wore them all through my last pregnancy and post CS. Now pregnant again and back in love with them. The sizing in pretty generous, but would still recommend going a size up from what you usually get in M & S.Very soft, wash and dry fast. They have some stretch and enough synthetic in them not to get washed out. They hang well, though only really look good with casual, flat shoes (converse, trainers, slippers). You can then wear them with whatever top you feel comfortable in. Also some long tunic tops with your over bump leggings would work well. I also recommend you getting a really nice dressing gown that is machine washable, ditto slippers. You might be in them quite a lot and it makes you feel much nicer to have nice stuff. If I had the presence of mind I would have got a mobile hairdresser in for a blow dry once I was home [vain emoticon].

I would also recommend these big big pants or these if you prefer something a bit smaller. Obviously in black, and get what fits you right now. I had a packet of the first in my pregnancy size which I wore for the first couple of weeks, then a pack of the second in a size down which did me till I could wear normal skimpies, which I think was about 2 months later.

I had a section two weeks ago, and bought roll top yoga pants from Sainsburys. Didn't want to spend a fortune- they cost £12 and have been marvellous. Also, their £5 vest tops are really long so have mostly been in those. Am also wearing big nick nicks and maternity leggins. I spent a fortune on breast feeding pj's and a matching gown from mothercare but have been unable to breastfeed so complete fail for me....

Thank you all, I've ordered those trousers from M&S and got a half-decent looking nightshirt/oversized tee shirt from Primark for immediately after the section. I've ordered some nicer nighties (almost like day dresses) from Mothercare so will see what they are like when they arrive.

Bonzo were you able to plug in your hair dryer and straighteners next to your bed? I have been wondering this for ages but am too Blush to ask the midwives!

I had a cs 2.5 weeks ago. In hospital I wore nighties but you could easily just wear a loose jersey dress.

At home I've found jogging trousers and harem pants the most comfy. Anything with a wide, flat front that supports your scar rather than digging into it. Maternity jeggings were ok at first but already too big (stealth boast! )
