Style and beauty

dress for my body shape

AGilchrist · 19/08/2012 21:18

Hi
I have recently lost quite a bit of weight. I am now a size 16. Smallish waist, d cup boobs and a huge ample backside. Along with a post child less that taught tummy.
my sip is getting married in 4 weeks. Its been so long since I have worn a dress I have no idea what style will suit.
I would really like to wear a dress.
Has anyone any idea what style dress would suit and flatter my figure.
Thanks

Don't know your budget, but have you looked in Phase 8?

They have lots of styles with drapey bits (there its probably a proper term!), which can flatter tummys. My advice: go in person rather than shop on the website, and try on any style in a color that you like. I was converted to a new type of style by trying on shapes I have never worn before!

This sort of style would be very flattering indeed, I think (also here and many other places).

Anything like?

Thank you.
My budget is pretty open.
i will definitely try phase 8.
Those dresses on those links are gorgeous. I thought that style would be nice.
Dh has tried helping but doesn't get the whole body shape thing.
Thank you so much.

You sound like you might be an hourglass shape (assuming your shoulders and hips look equally balanced). It's the most desirable shape but. Ot always easy to find things to suit as it's quite rare - manufacturers tend to make things for the more usual apple/straight up-and-down shapes.

Dressipi is pretty good at sourcing things to suit different styles/shapes. Put on your stats and answer the likes/dislikes questions and it comes up with loads of suggestions which are in the shops at the moment.

Haven't done a link but it's easy enough to find through Google.

Phase8 do have some great dresses, they are ever so popular though. High risk of turning up wearing the same as someone else (more so than monsoon these days, I think).

LadyV is very good value for money indeed, but they don't do any halter necks (which would also flatter you beautifully) - Hell Bunny is worth a look but you need to rummage well (via google), they have some very teenage-y styles as well as some stunning pieces for adults. Any dress in this sort of style will look much better with a petticoat, they're always photographed with them under but they're never included in the price.

What's your colouring?

There will only be 12 people at the wedding, including the bride and groom. The only other are the bride, mil (helped her pick her outfit) and dd (bridesmaid) so not too worried about someone matching.
I really love the vintage styles. I have long Very dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. My skin is kind of olive, but pale olive
When I go on holiday lots of people I meet assume I am Spanish, and speak to me in Spanish :) before they realise I can't speak a word.
I hope that gives you an idea. I would also like knee length as I am not mad about my thighs.

Thank you, they are really nice. When I get on my laptop, tonight I am going to have another look.
My phone is a bit rubbish.
I love the red and white one.

Me too! It's a real beauty and you could dress it down too.

There's a matching bolero and it'd be utterly amazing with these and something like this. (Real) red rose in your hair, proper bombshell make-up, wow.

Thank you so much.
I really want to look great. I was 36 pg when sip got married the first time and I looked huge, as you.
Then dbro married my best friend last year and I was bridesmaid, so dress was chosen for me.
This is the first wedding where I won't have been pg, fairly happy with my body and enjoy the day without feeling uncomfortable. But the fought of picking a dress for this 'new body' was quite scary. Not now though. :)

You'll look amazing in that sort of outfit, no doubt about it.

I'm a similar size / shape and have a slightly paler version of your colouring - 50's style makes me look like some sort of a goddess, even if I say so myself Blush. Suits me so well I have to watch out I don't look too good!

Oh, petticoat. It's well worth investing in a good one IMHO. I've just got a new one and it's the best I've ever had it moves beautifully is full, really soft and generally dream to wear. A lot of the cheap ebay ones are all stiff and itchy 'cause they're tulle net. Bah.

Anyway - mine's the Sams STP835 (4th down on the left) mine is black but they do loads of colours. Is an old fashioned site / company and you need to phone to order...

I have it on good authority that these are pretty good too, but even organdy net won't ever move quite as nicely / naturally as chiffon does.

low, red mary janes
red suede
red patent
T-bar wedge - black or red Not sure about the snake on the red ones but the black would actually be quite appropriate.

Ok new plan.
Sil has called and asked me if I will be a bridesmaid. I have accepted however as the only adult bridesmaid she asked me to pick a dress. Ideally black and white so I have picked this one. She likes it, what do you think?
