Colouring hair, what if I was to...

My hair is dyed a ginger shade, which I'm happy with, however, sometimes, I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror (something i try to avoid!) and I think it looks a bit 'brassy' or it doesn't suit my face, ifykwim! I was a natural redhead when I was younger but more of a deeper auburn, I have freckles with brown eyes and brown eyebrows! When my roots come through, along with a few stray grey strands my 'natural' colour still looks copper just more of a flat shade.

I was wondering I have a random bottle of 'Beige Blonde' just a 8 wash 1 bottle Clairol nice & easy in the cupboard - what would be the outcome if I was to slap it on? May be just subdue the ginger tones ever so slightly? Or make it go a horrid shade of something in between beige and orange?

Ginger/red hair is notorious for going wrong with home colours.

I used to work in a training salon, and I would say at least 75% of the colour disasters were red to blonde or red to black!

Just to add, I don't want to change the colour of my hair as such, just perhaps tone it down ever so slightly, so still keeping with the auburn hue. I'm I right in thinking it will was out anyway seeing as its only a 1 bottle 8 wash colour anyway?

Those nice n easy 8 wash jobs won't do any harm as it doesn't contain peroxide (I don't think) do will only layer colour/tone over the too of your natural colour. You can also buy wella toners which could help or a purple toned shampoo.

Most people I know who want natural looking reds do it using henna. Is that something you could look into? Lush do a lovely red henna. I'd recommend a little research into how it will react with previously coloured hair (I'm unsure - I know it reacts funny if you try to put bleach on it, but I'm not sure if the hair is already treated), but it can have some amazing results, and it's SO good for your hair.

Scarlett - the only prob with Henna, is that i do have a tendency to change my mind about the colour/shade of my hair now and then (like now!) so using henna isn't an option for me as i don't think you can use dyes over henna?

I'm still pondering on the thought of going a shade or two darker. Its either Clariol's Perfect 10 in Medium Auburn or Nice and Easy's in Natural Warm Auburn. Both look nice on the box, my only concern is, with my hair being a gingery colour to begin with, will it turn really orange/red or will it do the trick and turn it a slightly deeper shade of auburn? hmmm where's HunkyDorey (ex tattydevine!) when you need her lol!

Ah ok, it was just a thought

I too have stayed away from it as I get bored SO easily and change my hair all the time. I do know some women who have completely rescued their nearly totally wrecked hair with it, it's amazing stuff.
