Help! Perimenopausal - hair like straw - good conditioner recommended? And other tips?

I'm clearly drying out at a rapid pace.

Hair, once my crowing glory, is not a nest of straw, despite a good haircut.

I know I need to drink lots more water. I've been taking an expensive hair vitamin but only for a few weeks. I use macadamia nut oil sometimes to shine it up

But I need good recommendation for conditioner - will pay for a good one, so doesn't need to be cheap

Help! Am old before my time :-(

the best conditioner I've ever used is a £1 one! Alberto balsam honey and almond intensive conditioner. Alberto balsam is generally pound-shop rubbish but this particular one is fab.

general tips for dry hair, don't wash it every day, try washing with only conditioner (no shampoo) once a week or so. Try natural shampoo bars, free of acidy chemicals, you can get them handmade from sites like etsy/folksy. leave your conditioner on for as long as you can - wrap your head in cling film to keep the heat in.

Has it gone grey, because I have a wide streak of grey at the front which is course, but I have found dying it returns it to normal condition.

Top trichologist Philip Kingsley reccommends you wash your hair every day. I use Philip Kingsley shampoos, conditioners and the best hair mask on the market imho the Elasticizor. It is totally brilliant and you will def see the benefits. I occassionally use ojon volume products but they slightly dry my hair out but im sure if you try the products for dry hair they should do the trick. Drink plenty of water, eat nuts and seeds and protiens.

I second using Philip Kingsley products. I have also been taking Holland & Barrett Hair Food for a few months and have noticed a difference. The best thing I've ever done for my hair's condition is to have a Brazilian blow dry treatment. I no longer use straighteners (don't know if you do) and my previously straw like hair is gorgeously soft and shiny.

the brazilian blow dry is a very good treatment for aging drying hair.

I don't use a conditioner and only very mild herbal additive free shampoos due to occasional psoriasis on scalp.

But I use moroccan oil religiously as a leave in after every shampoo and sometimes between washes to style and add shine.

IMHO if you can afford the expense, a single deep moisture or brazilian salon treatment is better than a very expensive shampoo/conditionner combination.

My step mum just told me she goes to a clinic who prescribed her some drops to rub on her scalp nightly, & her hair now feels like it did when she was a teenager. This was mainly for thinning hair, but might be worth going somewhere specialist if you're willing to pay. Think it was somewhere in London

Just as an aside re: the Brazilian-it does contain a lot of formaldehyde. Think there are better things on the Market now not containing it.

please share.....I've heard someone mention the brazillian keratin treatment. Is that to the same?

You'll have to ask around your local salons and try and find one using a keratin treatment that doesn't contain formaldehyde, formalin or aldehyde.

Some have had lung issues with the fumes. Lots have said their hair is worse after 4 months, plus it's carcinogenic!

The Brazilian blowout does contain formaldehyde.

I really like the L'Oreal Elvive conditioner for coloured hair in the read bottle.

Coconut oil is very good as an overnight treatment too.
