Home dye highlighted hair

I went to a new hairdresser a couple of weeks ago and absolutely hate what she has done to my hair.
I hoped I would get used to it/ learn to work with it but it still makes me want to cry.
I cant do anything about the far far too short cut but I think lightening it would help a lot.
I can't afford to go back to the hairdresser for another few weeks so want to dye it myself in the meantime.
Is it ok to homedye highlighted hair, with a view to lightening it? My highlights are not bleach-based.
I've always had it mid to light blonde but disaster hairdresser decided to bring it back closer to my natural colour - mousy dull light brown.

Can anyone suggest a decent home dye.
I used to do it myself all the time but have had hairdresser highlights for the last 5/6 years so don't know what's new or good.

Thanks for any advice.
(My advice is don't have your hair done at Kuki in York Wink)

I always dye my own now. Nice n easy works best for me. Not sure how soon is too soon to re-dye it but after a few weeks I'd be tempted to do it now.

Anyway, bumping for someone else that's more knowledgeable.

Thanks molschambers.
I've always thought of N&E as a bit old - do they do nice shades?
I remember my mum used to use N&E in the 80s so I've probably never given them credit for probably having changed since then.

Well they've got loads of shades. I use it to cover up/blend my greys so it's a medium blonde I use. Works well.
