An ivory dress?
Going to v posh wedding tomorrow and made my dress. Big mistake. Just tried it on and it just isn't right. All accessories shoes etc bought to go with this dress which is a distinctive colour. We have to leave at 9 tomorrow to get there in time. What is the position on an ivory dress which is basically my only other option and I'm not going to look very dressy if I wear it. Is it frowned upon to wear ivory to a wedding?

Does it come with a veil? If so, yes

The bride will go spare. Can you ring a friend and borrow summat?

I wouldn't.

Nobody to ask to borrow anything. Dress I made is just not hanging properly and I don't have time to alter it. Nothing else even vaguely suitable in my wardrobe. The ivory one is not even vaguely wedding dress like but it's the colour isn't it. Really don't know what to do. Just don't want to go now (wasnt keen to start with since it's costing a fortune)

Any time to leg it out tomorrow morning and get another?

No time to shop. The wedding is three hours away and we have to leave at 9 Sad

Can you seriously not do a bit of internet research tonight and then rush in somewhere on the way? I find I shop v well under tight time pressure.
Leave at 8 maybe?
Is it hat posh or just dress and wrap stylee?

It's hat posh. I am so frustrated. I have spent hours on the bloody dress i made and only made it in the first place because I was short of cash. The ivory one is sort of Greek drapey style knee length jersey so not really right anyway but everything else in my wardrobe apart from work wear and jeans is about ten years old!

Can't leave early since my parents are coming to collect the kids and can't get here until nine. They're already a bit Hmm at having to arrive for nine

What accessories do you have to go with the dress you made? What colour(s)?

Where do you live? Lots of shopping centres open until 10pm?

Virgil - is Meadowhell near you? I would dash over now.

It sounds like you have no choice but to wear it, do you have a wrap or jacket or nice cardi in a contrasting colour?

Either go to a big shopping centre thats open til 10 or try a retail park with next, they usually open til 8. If it was me I think I would even be scouring the supermarkets for something. I once picked up a dress from tesco for a wedding. I got compliments on it all day and that is the only time that has ever happened to me.

It's not ideal according to 'etiquette' but if you've got no other choice then just wear it. Better than turning up in jeans or not going at all, surely.

Do you know the bride well, do you think she'd be the type to care about that kind of thing?

what exactly is wrong with the dress you made? is it really as bad as you think> if it fits, I'd wear it.

How well do you know the bride and what is she like? I really wouldn't have minded at all at my wedding. Might have been a bit perplexed by someone turning up in full length ivory silk but normal dress that just happens to be ivory - is that really so bad?

Actually, if you've got strong coloured accessories I,d say the ivory dress would be ok.

Dress was blue with peacock feather design. Accessories, shoes etc blue and will have to be returned. I have some silver diamanté shoes though which go with lots of things. Only other option is a black dress but it's more a going out to dinner dress than a go to a wedding dress. Also have a green LK Bennett dress but it was badly taken up once (not by me) and has a dodgy hemline.
