dressing down a leather skirt??

I know it sounds tacky but it's not, honest guv. Just re-examined the slightly below the knee wrapover black skirt that I (panic) bought about 4 years ago as it was the only thing I saw that I liked after birth of DC1 and I had a party to go to... Back then I wore it with flat patent boots and belted top which was great at the time but looks a bit dated now. TBH the skirt wasn't cheap and I would quite like to get more wear out of it but maybe in a more casual way. I'm thinking short sweater maybe but can anyone suggest footwear? Any thoughts on wedge boots? Don't want to look dumpier than I am already...
(Oh, I'm 5'5 and a 14 if that's any help)

Hi Sprogger, that's exactly it NON FETISH CLUB! I'm a bit hourglassy too (arse and knockers) so I thought shorter and not so chunky knit would be the way to go but the skirt is just a tad too long to do the whole riding boot look now I think. Gah, maybe I need to learn how to Ebay stuff am total technophobe

Watching with interest too, chunky knit is def the way to go but I can't fathom the tights/shoes/boots thing without being far too dressed up for my quite ordinary life! I have a lovely mid brown/tan leather pencil skirt which looks lovely with a grey/navy chunky or textured jumper but what else?

(sorry not much help, I do have it in my head though that leather looks best with a contrasting texture e.g. soft drapy jumper or thick rib, or crisp cotton shirt)

I wear one with soft cashmere jumper in pale pink it very girly therefore goes against the leather skirt more rock chick look

How about flat moccasins?

Shoe boots and a cashmere v neck. I would perhaps go tan brown on boots and top, or keep boots black and have a bright top...

here

uniglo have cashmere offer on today

The de-vamp trick with leather is to contrast its texture with a matt top - so go for cable knit jumpers or cashmere (yay to Mme Cholet) or roughish wool or something. Nice thick matt tights in cotton or wool. Don't wear anything shiny at all with it inc tights or shoes.

Yay, thanks for the suggestions. I agree about overall shiny-ness. There is a v nice aran knit cropped jumper on Pure website but is ££. As Hatcam says, it's all very well being fab and lovely but my life is so ordinary and I live on a muck farm. Well, it's technically an arable farm, but in N Ireland so therefore like Glasto on a bad weekend. But I want to swish about. But the locals will point at me behind my back. But I want suede boots. And the lovely heels on WIT. I need to leave DH and move to London.

I want to swish about too! I will be wearing my fake leather leggings and chunky knit jumper to collect at school tomorrow as a nod to swishing. Life is too short to keep clothes for 'best'.

Hatcam, that sounds bloody great (and kinda brave!) Sadly I am waayy too old for such funkiness so skirt is my saddo version of trying to recapture lost youth and energy. If only I could find casual yet funky feet Grin

I also live on muck farm. (sick of washing shit off shoes) & love Arran jumpers. Tweed jacket and posh wellies also good with leather skirt.

If anyone can find me a maternity knee length leather skirt, I will give them a million pounds*

  • or a nice smile, whichever is of lesser value

Oh oh I have Aigle croc wellies that are far too tight on calf and make your feet like ice blocks. Think they might be v obviously wellies though... Speaking of washing shit off shoes, DH has just asked what this stuff is in his shoe. We have a new kitten. ??? What about Fly boots- not the crazy ones.
