I have an interview tomorrow (hooray!) and I'm currently in meltdown over what to wear. My standard interview dress is a lovely one from lk bennett (that can be seen on Justine Milliband only yesterday) but I get the impression that it will be too formal. The interview is a marketing manager / PR type role but it's for quite a unique online company. Not new media but not overly corporate either. I don't want to give away too much about th company though. The other thing is the interview is taking place in a restaurant / bar - which screams to me not to go too OTT on the formality.

SO. I got myself some of these to be worn with this with some nice high heels also from LK bennett.
However, I am really struggling with the top. It's going to be bloody hot tomorrow so I'm ruling out a shirt as I will arrive all hot and sweaty. I have a short sleeved version of this which looks pretty nice but is it too casual? Any ideas of what sort of top to go underbeath or whether the blazer / trouser combo just doesn't work at all greatly appreciated! I've got a small amount of time to go shopping this afternoon if needed.

I would go with the dress actually. It's such a classic look and depending on shoes, jewellery etc it doesn't have to be too formal. You shouldn't get too hot in it and I think it's looks lovely!

If you still want to wear the trousers and jacket then I guess a plain cream or maybe pale pink cotton top would work best, you might still be in danger of being too hot though.

HTH.

I would go with the trousers and blazer and a shell top underneath like this

Am in quite a traditional environment myself but for the online trendies you describe I really like what you've linked - I would stick to a plain top though, I wouldn't mix white/blue/navy/grey all in one look.

How did the interview go and what did you wear in the end?

I went with the rather unorthodox combo of the dress ANDthe blazer. I had a drama mid morning when I proceeded to step over a bench as if I was wearing jeans and managed to rip it up the arse seam! A hatchet sew job seemed to do though because I got offered a 2nd interview on the spot. Woo! (May have just outed myself here)

I have a bit more time to figure out the second interview outfit.

Ta for the suggestions :)

you're very welcome, and I like the idea of the dress and blazer, bit ashamed it didn't occur to me actually! Smile

Congrats on the 2nd interview and good luck for the next stage.
