Should I cut all my long hair off?

I am FED UP with having shit hair. My hair is on my shoulder blades, quite curly if left alone but straight if blown dry. Since having DS I do not have any time for it and I leave for work at 5.30am ish now too so am not inclined to fiddle with it at the expense of sleep! So EVERY DAY I wear it in a bun on top of my head. Every day.

I've made an appt with a senior stylist at Trevor Sorbie on Saturday and I'm going to put myself in his hands.

I am really edging towards just chopping it all off. Or at least just below chin length or something. I need some sort of style!

Shall I just do it? If not what shall I do??

No, no, a thousand times no... When it's long you can tie it up, etc and quickly get out of the house. If it's short, unless it's very short, you will need to 'style' it every morning. That's been my experience, anyway.

Chop it all off!!! Sounds like you need a make over - just tying it back every day is boring and you will feel a million times better for having a cool style!!!

No, don't. Get one of those sorry-forgotten-name blow dries that takes a while but leaves your hair smooth straight from the shower for a few months. I know that having long hair is a bit of a hassle but styling short hair can be a mare too.

Hmmm. My sister also says shorter hair needs more doing but I didn't believe her.

Either leave it or go properly short, BelleDame is right, I have just spent 2 years growing mine to below the shoulders, it was easy to maintain when very short, is easy to maintain now but was horrendous at all the in between stages.

I love being able to wear mine up or down easily, but for it to be low maintenance at this length requires exactly the right combination of layers, so I always get it cut regularly. So, if you are going to keep the length, talk to the hairdresser about layers that will make it fall nicely when it dries naturally would be my suggestion.

DD had the chop and she looks cool and trendy and has an actual style. Whereas when long, it was mostly a bit dull.
Go for it! You wont regret it. You'll feel like a new woman.

The thing with cutting your hair short is that it will always grow back.

For it to be easy, short hair has to be VERY short. Mine is dead easy - never bother drying it, just spike it with a bit of wax every now and then - but it is only an inch or so long (slightly longer at front so looks hopefully less Borstal more pixie)

I have to say I LOVE having short hair. Mine was down below my shoulders when DS was born, I NEVER did anything to it so it was permanently lank and in a ponytail.

Right. So either I go from now - and I just brushed it out, it is below bra strap and annoyingly looks lovely this evening - to very, very short. Or I have it trimmed a bit and learn how to do it properly, and Bother With It.

Definitely chop it off. I hung on to longish, layered hair for years and believed the "it takes more work to style it" argument. Got so pissed off with it this summer I had it chopped to chin length with no layers and it is so much easier to look neat I only wash my hair every 4 days or so so don't have to blow dry it often.

Hi bigkids. I've just had mine lopped. It was bra-strap length, but there's loads of it and it takes aaaages to dry. I am similarly time-poor and sleep-deprived (DS still not sleeping through at 12 mo ) so decided to go a bit shorter. It's now just touching my shoulders, with loads of choppy layers that give it a 1960s kind of volume on the crown. DH thinks it's sort of Julie Christie-ish - a bit like this but without the fringe. It's still long enough to do a perky little ponytail too.

I like it. I feel a bit more sophisticated and yet younger at the same time.

Don't do it! I have wavy/ curly hair and it's a bastard when shorter than shoulder length. I now have mine down to my bra strap, I just wash and condition it and leave it to curl naturally. No drying or straightening any more! So much easier than having to properly style it EVERY morning

Your hair sounds a lot like mine. I had mine long for years but tied it up because it was too much work. I finally got the courage to lop off the lot a year ago and am only sorry I didn't do it years ago. I've had very short but been playing with various cuts as its grown. The worst that will happen is that you won't like it and will have to let it grow again

Oh I'm confused now! I will talk to Lee on Saturday and decide. Very much like Julie Christie, that's something else to think about.

I did it - def worth it! It was like I was a 30 yr old with a security blanket! If in doubt have 6 inches taken off, then if no likey donb go shorter, but if you do likey, then go shorter the next time!

I think it's called a Brazilian Hair Treatment. Leaves hair looking absolutely immaculate and straight for at least two months. A friend of mine had it done and she looks amazing. Would never ever cut long hair, it's feminine and has taken you this long to grow it. Cutting it is the worst mistake you could ever make.

You cant say women with short hair arent feminine. I'd like long flowing locks, but my hair just looks lank when long, shorter it looks more zhooozhy. (difficult word to write that! Hope it comes across! Lol)

I've just (on Wednesday) had mine cut from just-below-boob length to a few inches longer than shoulder length thinking it would make me look more 'put together' and 'grown up' and I hate it!

I nearly cried when I got home and realised quite how short it was and realised that I will spend the next few months with it tied up until it has grown again. Which completely defeats the point of having it cut in the first place as my intention was to wear it down more! Plus it's far more faff to get it to look nice than before!

DO NOT DO IT!!!!!
