Help me find a sexy but sophisticated dress for my birthday!

I'm going out with the girls for my birthday. I'm planning on going to classy places(!)

Please help me find a dress. I'm thinking sexy but sophisticated. I'd love to find a long black dress with a plunging neckline, nipped in waist and maybe a sexy slit. I can see it in my head, but can't find anything like that in the shops. Looks like short is in at the moment.

I'm 5'9 1/2, size 8-10 (more a 10 at the moment), not much bust.

What do we think of this one? Ted Baker Body Con Dress

So I'm not limiting myself to long...any ideas guys?

Oh, I'm in my early thirties.

Too much plunge?

square neck

pleat neck

Cut out neck

V neck

Ted Baker one is ok, but I'm not a fan of the embellished bits.

oh, move over skinny b - what wouldn´t look good on you FFS? I´m in a similar position but somewhat older than you (mid to late 40s), size 14, tall, hourglass (so they say). Everything online is for thin young things like you or Hyacinth Bucket/one of her sisters. Shall I just stay in? Not hijacking your thread, just p**d off after hours of searching the usual suspects. have a lovely time, btw.

you are good at this, aren´t you? Otter, I couldn´t carry that off, really, but can see how it could work. Tilly, i like the aftershock but,yes a bit much. love the others but after 2 caesareans don´t do shiny round the lower tum area. i need a ruched round the tum type dress, but wrap style, so shows my waist but not my tum. tether, liked the sequins till I saw the back. going to go through them all again.

tigermother - do you want black and full length as well ? Or are you open to other things ? I'm late 30's, size 14-16 and have a "problem" tummy area (thanks to a couple of 10+ lb babies and lots of cakes). This is really flattering. i like this as well

They supply lots of independent shops, might be worth contacting them to see if there's a stockist near you.

Tilly, that is rather flipping gorgeous isn´t it? Wonder what my arms would look like? I´ll be trying that on for sure, thank you. Had thought only about long and black, but do like the idea of redy colours and purply ones too. now, now, Mychild, we must learn to share

I went shopping today and ended up getting this dress in two colours. I love it, it is such a flattering dress, and the blue colour is stunning.

The belt is gold so I'm going to accessorise with gold jewellery (and I won't be wearing tights, unlike the second model). I also bought some black suede heels and a black suede glittery clutch, though I'd love to find some gold shoes (as I've got a gold bag somewhere) to go with it but don't have time....or might that be gold over-kill?

My Asos dresses came today, but unfortunately the material wasn't dressy enough so they've all got to go back. They were more the sort of dress I'd wear to work (well, obviously not with the plunge necklines, but you get what I mean about the material.

I'm not wearing the dress as tight as the models seem to be...especially the black one. I'm using the gold belt from the blue dress, whichever colour I decide to wear, and am draping it a bit looser, cos I think your waist looks thicker when you wear it as tight as the model in the black dress is wearing hers.

Wasn't really happy with my shoes and bag so I've just been shopping again. Got some gold sandally heels and a gorgeous blingy gold clutch. Can't wait to try it all on and see if it is gold over-kill or not.

Had my eyebrows threaded and false eyelashes put on in the new brow bar that's just opened too.

Think I'm almost ready now!!!
