I got my mum a pair last year whilst I was there. She lived in them all Winter and Im thinking whether I should get her a pair this year? Obviously shes not bang on trend but, I just wondered if I would be wasting my money? are they past their sell by date? is there anything else I should ask my kind friend to bring back? Nothing heavy so, no bath products!! smile

I woudn't ask for a pair of Uggs if my friend was going to the factory that makes them and getting them for free.

kitya Sun 18-Sep-11 10:36:29

That bad, eh? It was a harsh Winter last year.

moondog Sun 18-Sep-11 10:37:11

Harsher still with those monstrosities on your feet. grin

kitya Sun 18-Sep-11 10:46:36

I did say that they arent for me!! smile

Glad to hear it!
Why would your mum need yet another pair?
Haven't you made her suffer enough?

I love my UGGs and couldn't give a toss if they're bang on trend or not. If your mum loves hers then it sounds like a great idea. Just don't tell moondog what you've bought wink.

I was always very anti-ugg until a few days ago. Now for some reason I have the urge to get a tall chocolate pair for winter. Don't know where this urge suddenly came from but I feel the need to be warm, cosy, comfy (and most likely look like a twat in the process).

kitya Sun 18-Sep-11 15:30:11

It is about comfort though and, not falling tits up in the snow.

FaffTastic i was exactly the same two years ago. I just had to get a pair of tall chocolate uggs. I had never hankered after them before, i dont know what the tipping point was. Anyway so i get a pair in size 3 but they were too big and so i got a pair of size 2 (youth) on line. I loved them sooooo much but within a year they ripped at the toe. I have since read that you shouldnt buy them small as the material becomes weak. Am now dithering about what size too get.

Uggs are rubbish in snow. They aren't waterproof so your feet get soaked, and they have no grip on them so you end up falling over.

Queenkong Mon 19-Sep-11 10:27:32

They make you look like a centaur.

2blessed2bstressed Mon 19-Sep-11 10:30:17

As you may have gathered, Uggs are very divisive! I am well aware of the shortcomings re waterproofing etc, but I still love mine. If your mum loved hers last year then she'd probably be delighted witha a new pair. smile

I would ask her to get a pair of Adirondack Uggs

They are the bees knees. Superbly warm and waterproof. You can tuck them under bootleg jeans, or wear them on top.

And not ugly like normal uggs.

TrillianAstra Mon 19-Sep-11 10:34:01

And not ugly like normal uggs. no, just ugly in a different way... grin

MmeLindor. Mon 19-Sep-11 10:41:54

Not ugly at all, actually

JohnniesBitch Mon 19-Sep-11 11:39:59

I brought merrell penguin boots back from florida, they should be fab for winter and much much cheaper than the uk.

JohnniesBitch Mon 19-Sep-11 11:40:46

d'oh i meant puffin!
black ones wiht quite a thick rubbery sole. now i don't mind if it snows.

homeaway Mon 19-Sep-11 11:43:34

You need to spray them to make the waterproof smile

emsyj Mon 19-Sep-11 12:54:26

Uggs are slippers - why on earth would you wear them outside? They aren't designed for it. They are indoor wear.
(and ugly... and overpriced!)

rosie17 Mon 19-Sep-11 13:06:40

Not into their footwear at all, but I love the earmuffs

daisie4 Tue 20-Sep-11 22:23:54

Oh Kitya do you know the price of Uggs in US?

987654 Tue 20-Sep-11 22:34:48

Customs could be an issue if getting close to the £390 limit if other gifts are being bought back.

Uggs can be found cheaply in the UK , The outlet shops on ebay for example can see caving of over 50%.

Ugg Bellvue could be a style worth considering ?

TigerseyeMum Wed 21-Sep-11 12:53:02

Celtic Sheepskin make the original Uggs and are ethical and British.

Interesting ,
Do you know who makes that Bellvue style ??
