This is why Boden is so expensive...

or rather how Johnnie earned himself a cool £15 million last year- according to the financial pages in today's Times.

He owns 60% of the shares and the reckoning is that equated to £15 million in dividends for him.

Profits jumped enormously- and so did prices, yes?

Now you know.

Something is worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it and for some reason there are people out there who are prepared to pay over the odds for Boden, I think it is overpriced others clearly don't, so Johnny has just taken advantage of that....

I can't believe it's taken me so long to find this forum. I've been having problems with finding suitable clothing being a 29yr old mummy of a 2 year old so first stop for me was boden. I feel too old for topshop and too young for some boden (not all) but i did buy a couple of the jumpers on there which are nice but i agree, slightly overpriced.

Any suggestions on where I can find some nice yummy mummy outfits?

Where are Boden's clothes made?

Does anyone ever buy anything at full price from Boden? I think part of the reason it is so expensive is so that they can run 20% off offers all the time, which brings things down to a slightly more realistic price.

Also, if they didn't send me a new catalogue through the post every fortnight they could perhaps reduce their prices slightly.

no, i use discount codes for pretty much everything - it is a good excuse to the husband. Forgot, just bought some of their boots too and they are probs some of the best i've ever had.

What is a yummy mummy outfit? (genuine question)...

beela - it's the reason I stopped buying from Boden. I asked them to send me 1 catalogue per season only. They refused so I asked them to remove me from their mailing list and said I would look at the website instead. Iget busy so forget (not on purpose) but it just doesn't happen.

I was appalled by the possible cost as you say and the environmental impact.

It's a pity - I quite like Boden style or rather did - this year did not look that great for me (colours all wrong)

stop thinking of yourself as a mummy, yummy or otherwise and think of yourself as a 29 year old woman. That should help.

ermmm....i would say something that makes me look and feel good...and is easy to wash and wear and doesn't make me look like i'm trying to be a teenager again? Something sophisticated yet attractive but without having to try (because i just don't have the time!). My definition anyway off the top of my head...

this is getting off topic Angry The Times stated that Boden send out 15 million catalogues- so they reckon we all spend £1.

Or maybe 15 of us get 1 million catolgues- feels like it.

It was just a phrase. I am a full time mummy therefore a mummy is who I am not just a 29 year old. It always comes with the word mummy after it, can't say it's something I want to change.

I reckon it's more like 30 of us get 500,000 catalogues. That's how many I got last year, anyway. And I've specifically asked for only one per season.

It's very rare that I buy anything full price. I have been known to take the DC to school late on the day the on-line sale started. Blush

No problem, I just feel a bit sad when someone defines themselves as a mummy. I would like to think that people would prefer to define themselves as a woman/person who is also a mother. I do feel there is a big difference.

Anyway. Firstly at 29 I wouldn't think you're too old for topshop but I do think you're too young for 99% of Boden.

Gap is good as is Zara. H&m is good, tk maxx has some nice bits. I like oasis and some of the concessions in debenhams.

29 is far to young for boden, surely Shock

I'm 35 and I reckon I'm too young for Boden.

The catalogue overload seems to be timed perfectly - the minute I put the previous one in the recycling bin, the next one appears on my doorstep. I can see it all online. If they have to remind me, a postcard would do and I can look online. They don't have to send the whole catalogue.

I am also glad to hear it is not just me who is a bit Shock with their prices this season. Even with the 20% off that I always wait for, it prices me out of the market - not that Johnnie is likely to notice Grin

I also receive the catalogue to see what will be in next for me in the charity shop

But it is quite expensive for what it is IMO.

Boden is diabolical.

Didn't Johnnie say something charming like "there isn't much more vulgar than middle aged mums looking sexual"?

I will not let that man dress me.

Welcome mummy2munchkin Smile Why not start your own thread and we'll have a look for stuff for you? And I'm 33 and not too old for Topshop Wink

I'm 32 and too young and too poor for Boden. Jonny Biden has fully a demographic of women who have identified themselves via what they wear. They are now mothers and therefore grown up and want to fit into that group, who feel they should be purchasing classic clothes at a premium price but couldn't afford top dollar.

In fairness I know that's not why the clothes and brand were created, and the clothes can be nice. But they are playing to a concept, and that is yummy mummy

I am another who hates the term and all it has come to stand for.
