Bay City Rollers and the tartan edged trews?

Skin tight jeans with legwarmers?

Mini kilts with white tights?

Laura Ashley pie crust collar blouses?

'Dave' from Slade haircut whether you were male or female?

Just been looking back through some friends photo albums.

I had the mini kilt.

I 'rocked'

ThatsNotMyBabyBelly Sun 11-Sep-11 17:27:32

I was a bros-ette god help me.

I had stonewashed denim everything, sew on patches, and those awful bottle tops on my shoes.

I was 11 though so a bit of an excuse

oldsilver Sun 11-Sep-11 17:59:49

Bay City Rollers scarf - tick
Mini kilt though with blue tights - tick
Rara skirt - tick
Fame stylee sweat shirt dress, wooly tights and leg warmers - tick
Skin tight jeans/leg warmer combo - tick
Twee white ribbon just dangling in hair - tick
Jeans with piping down the sides (home sewn piping as Mother wouldn't buy the proper ones) - tick
Sweatshirt with poirot on the front - tick
Twinkie home perm - tick

There were probably more.

Oh the shame...

Being 23 I can't go that far back but remember about 10 years ago the fab thing that was trouser/skirts. Like a pair of work trousers, middle pleat included with a skirt over the top. I had a baby blue pair. grin

thestringcheeseincident Sun 11-Sep-11 18:02:38

Yes I used to wear rather fetching stone washed jeans with matching denim jacket and white boots. Dear god, the shame. ( I was 13 at the time).

Fuctifano Sun 11-Sep-11 18:16:10

White puffball skirt. Black ra-ra skirt with pointed witchy ankle boots and one black lace glove. Worse I think was my hair though it was a girlie version of this,r:1,s:0&biw=1441&bih=689

RedRubyBlue Sun 11-Sep-11 18:16:57

I had the lace hair ribbon and the eighties perm.

At the end of a very, very long and dimly lit room I looked like Madonna.

ChablisLover Sun 11-Sep-11 18:18:33

A pair of White suede tassel boots or so I thought until I seen Isabel marant did a pair for a/w and now think I was ahead of the times!

PersonalJesus Sun 11-Sep-11 18:31:45

Ooh yes, skin tight jeans with leg warmers.

White jumpsuit with red jelly shoes and matching red beads.

Blue velvet knickerbockers with white satin shirt and pearls.

Ra-ra skirt with pixie boots.

I dressed like Strawberry Switchblade for a while.

Double denim disasters more than once.

Awful brillo-ish spiral perm which was sprayed solid/crispy.

Oh yes, I was a catch back in the day .....

Crystalmom Sun 11-Sep-11 18:45:44

Beat this 80s disaster:
Day-glo yellow polka dot dress with puff sleeves and Ra-ra skirt!
Mmmmm stylish. With big moussed up massive curly hair.

I was about 9 at the time but still.....Did no one notice how hideous that dress was? Wish I had a picture it's even worse than you can imagine!

scootergal Sun 11-Sep-11 19:02:19

hmmm had the tartan .. but with black tights ... does that make it better?
Vividly remember styling my hair with a 'bump' at the front.... ewwww

but the worst worst ever ... I owned a thong with kindof um diamantes at the t- part (that might ride up when you bent over ) ...oh god ..... i thought i was such a siren!

RedRubyBlue Sun 11-Sep-11 19:26:32

I had a way out Mother.

She actually wanted me to be a 'Goth' because she liked the fashion.

I was the girl in the Laura Ashley pie crust collar and ballet flats with bows on in patent leather

I also wore a pinafore with a bow on the hem and a broderie anglaise petticoat.

Double blush

Pudden Sun 11-Sep-11 19:28:23

tartan trousers and white frilly shirt a la spandau- same shirt updated with striped knickerbockers later that year when warmer. Also wore a thick aran jumper with a tiny rara skirt and earrings almost down to me waist.

Those were the days...I was slim and gorgeous and wish I realised that at the time

talkingnonsense Sun 11-Sep-11 19:30:49

Pinstripe jeans

Pineapple knit sweaters ( mine was White)

White anoraks - have a photo from about 1985, every girl outside scoop in a White or pastel anorak, often sleeves rolled up

Black ribbed tights with White fluffy ankle socks over the top.

RedRubyBlue Sun 11-Sep-11 19:38:17

I had forgotten the pin striped jeans craze. My friend Liz was a massive culprit.

PrimaBallerina Sun 11-Sep-11 19:51:25

A flat top, which was long at the back.

It was 1986!

Ilovebagsandbruuuce Sun 11-Sep-11 20:00:18

Black body (like a leotard - is that the right word??) with belted jeans up to the waist. Very uncomfortable. Also ski-pants. Oh and a green shell suit from the market with yellow and purple bits.

CointreauVersial Sun 11-Sep-11 20:13:45

Peg-leg jeans (stonewashed, of course)
Frankie says Relax teeshirt
Fringey scarf, worn cowboy-fashion
Black suede pixie boots
Offensive mullet hairdo

Thehusbandsatcricketagain Sun 11-Sep-11 20:20:07

Think 80s,spandau ballet concert & me ........omg am I really admiting this in a dun dun dun da operating theatre green ra-ra skirt with matching frilly fronted blouse (courtesy of miss selfridge) paired with teeny ankle socks with burgundy courts with off white stitching embroidered in a flower pattern...........what was I thinking shock confused blush grin

RedRubyBlue Sun 11-Sep-11 20:27:36

Oh my god! The 'bodies'. They would come 'unpopped' when you were walking along the road and trying to get them done up when you were pissed and in a nightclub............

Also they totally baffled a guy who was inexperienced as to where to begin to 'unpop'. He was hunting around for ever looking for a bra strap. hmm

heather1980 Sun 11-Sep-11 20:41:49

i had a neon pink rara dress with black spots that i wore with frilly white ankle socks and jelly shoes eek.

a pillar box red shell suit

and a global hyper colour tshirt that showed every bit of sweat and which my mum killed in the washing machine
oh and 3 sweater shop sweaters in green blue and white

Pudden Sun 11-Sep-11 20:42:24

those bodies were bloody grim; i used to howk the gussett to one side and pee like that rather than try and do the poppers up when sloshed

Pudden Sun 11-Sep-11 20:44:35

I remember a horrible lipstick that I wore from Miss Selfridge. It was a bronzy/goldy metallic shade and dried your lips out the instant you put it on as well as made your teeth look all nice and yellow <lovely>

Erebus Sun 11-Sep-11 20:57:47

I did the guernsey sweater, pokey up collar and string of pearls thing a la Lady Di.

I also did Spandau- oh, the hair! I even had a single, thin plait extending 8" down lower than my collar. I recall my hairdresser begging me to cut it off.
