The hoody is way more practical, there is no way I would put a two and half year old in anything containing angora, it will be knackered in two weeks.

If you have money to burn though, the cardi is cuter.

i prefer the cardi, i think get all the cute stuff you want in now, as befreo you knwo it tehy won't want to wear sweet little mouse cardis.

Are you comparing the cardi to the shaggy lined zip through or the hooded dress top?
DD tried all three at the Boden shop. She didn't like the hooded dress top, found the bottom bit too narrow and restricting. Both the shaggy lined zip-through and cardi were very comfortable. We ended up getting the zip-through, purely because I thought it was more practical and she would get more use out of it. But I might get the cardi later money permitting, as it does look really nice.
Depends what you need more, the zip-through is more a going out casual sort of jacket, whereas the cardi is an extra layer to wear indoors and is cuter/dressier looking too.

DD has this, which is incredibly useful, warm and looks lovely on - the photo doesn't do it justice, it's a cute little triangular shape that looks lovely with a skirt underneath. The slate blue colour goes with everything.
