Hair turned orange!!!!!

Hey guys,

Need a little help from you mumsnet experts. I decided to save the money I would spend at the hairdressers and do it myself, bad move.....

Tried to dye my dark (natural) roots blonde to match the rest but unfortunately the loreal home dye i have used has given me orange roots!!
I look ridiculous!!

Any advice please?

Eeek, either go dark all over putting a reddy colour on first to stop it going green, or bleach again - but you have two more stages to go to get to proper blonde - after orange there's peach and then banana yellow, then blonde

If you don't want the damage of re- bleaching just go dark all over.

I have used the loreal dye 3 times this morning trying to get it blonder, but its not really changing from the orange!

Blonde suits me better than dark

Go to the hairdresser. I had to do this, as my hair went steadily orangey/reddish when I tried to go blonde at home.

The home dyes don't have something in them (I have forgotten what) and you will not be able to get a proper blonde at home.

Your hairdresser will fit you in asap if you tell them what's happened!

I managed to turn mine purple once, going for blonde. They were loving it in the salon, and couldn't work out why it had gone purple.

However, this did not make me feel any better, but I did leave with lovely hair!

It took about 5 hours altogether as they put this neutraliser stuff on first.

What home dye was it? Was it a bleach kit?
How dark is your natural colour?

Erm it was loreal excellence creme.
Natural colour a fairly light brown....

I may go to the hairdressers, i'm gonna give it one more shot with the dye and if that doesnt work will be off there later!

I'd say probably hair dressers. I would guess the only way to get it blond would be a bleach kit, but if you're not confident to use that then a hairdressers is your only option really. I've home coloured for years, but I'd hate to recommend something that makes all your hair fall out o_0

Can you use colour b4 to strip the colour from your roots? Or sill that now work on lightened hair?

What colour did you use TLF? Just curious as I dye my roots (naturally dark reddish brown) blonde about every 4 weeks to match the rest of my hair. I have used Loreal products many times and not had the problem with orange roots, so interested to know what shade you used. I used to use L'oreal bronze blonde but unfortunately they have discontinued it. I do find I need to use a very light blonde shade to get the roots to a nice natural looking colour.

My preferred shade would be strawberry blonde but I have spent hours looking for the right shade to no avail and having it done at the hairdressers is costly.

Hope you get it sorted though, I've had many hair colour mishaps in the past and you have my total sympathy.

I did this,I had bright carrot orange coloured hair.

A local hairdressers run a colour disaster clinic for idiots like me.She sorted it out but refused to put any more bleach on due to my hair being slightly very frazzled so she took it all dark,cost me nearly £100 to get it corrected but was a lesson very well learnt never to try & go blonde at home again

Thanks for the advice, have booked an appointment at my usual hairdressers for 3;30pm.
Am gonna get an earfull and a huge bill from my hairdresser i expect, but have learnt the lesson!
