Shoes for Sixth Form

Can anyone give me an idea or two for shoes for DS1, who starts sixth form later on this week? No uniform and a fairly lenient dress code. He has jeans, trousers (brown and neutral coloured) and various tops. He's not wildly style-conscious, but, obviously, would like to fit in with everyone else. His only suggestion has been Converse hi-tops, but I think they wouldn't be very good in wet weather. I just don't have a clue what to get him! All suggestions gratefully received.

I'm afraid practicality and fashion don't mix when you're 16. Have you thought about letting him choose rather than you doing it for him?
