Do accessories "make" an outfit for you?

Which accessories can you not be without?

Personally I'm looking forward to the winter because I love scarves and have loads, plus I feel naked without earrings.

earrings, necklace/beads and often bangles/bracelets too tho i can live without the latter if it all looks too much.

ds (nearly 3) asked me where my earrings were earlier as he's only seen me a few times without them.

Yes absolutely. Scarves, necklaces, bracelets. Can make such a huge difference to a simple outfit.

Not earrings though. Don't wear earrings as I wear glasses. It just feels like far too much head furniture.

Shmoofer I get where you're coming from with that. I always think Kate Silverton looks a bit "busy" with the specs and earrings.

I don't like the look of "empty" holes, so I always wear earrings.

They don't necessarily "make" my outfit the same way having mascara on doesn't "make" my outfit, it's just something I like to have.

A scarf, IMO, can make it.
Also must have the right shoes.

Ooo yes, necklaces and scarves are my day to day must haves, a nice cocktail ring when dressing up. Feel naked without accessories.

without a doubt. Scarves for winter and summer, nice shoes, bags, hats, bracelets and necklaces etc. I love them all!

I don't wear many accessories but the ones I have make my clothes look more expensive or classy, that's the idea anyway.

I bought a FAB navy military cape coat from Tesco yesterday which will fit over my bump for the winter - with my Warehouse leopard scarf it looks a million dollars. In my head anyway which is what matters Smile

I currently want a long simple silver chain with something simple but interesting on it to streamline my body when wearing simple jersey ruched IO tops.

Agree that Kate Silverton looks fussy with glasses and earrings - combined with her hmm interesting hairdo, she looks like she stepped out of the 80s.

There's a sign of the low-rise, drop-waisted generation. No-one has mentioned belts.

I like pashminas and big jangly Indian style earrings.

I also like belts! I've nicked some great vintage ones from my mum and gran. Thin sit on your actual waist 50's ones from my gran, and funky full of random metal bits from the 80s from my mum.

I was about to mention belts senua!

I wear quite plain clothing (not much in the way of patterns or prints) and so belts and scarves make all the difference between "T shirt and trousers" and "Outfit".

I like earrings too.

Stripey I would also like a very long silver chain with a simple pendant on it. I want one that hangs at or below boob level - all the ones I see are more normal necklace level. Let me know if you find anything!

Scarves & woolly hats make winter for me ! Can't wait Smile

Just a watch, and in winter a big cashmere or wool scarf and a big slouchy bag. Oh and belts. So not much but it does tend to be expensive types.

I don't have earrings, or wear necklaces or bracelets.

Stripey and Peanut have you tried Accessorize? Or are you thinking real silver?

I love scarves in other people but on me they seem to accentuate my big chest short neck. Any one else find this?

Talking I find short necklaces and even stud earrings emphasise my short neck!

Im well known for my love of accesories cheap and simple things that make even plain t shirts look dressy.

Today im wearing a grey t shirt top with a dark silver coloured long chain with a bluey coloured bead and all chain bits hanging off it and a thick silver bracelet it makes a difference!!

Lots of my wooden bracelets have baby teethmarks in from my time working at the nursery where the littlies would chomp on them Grin.

No, I don't do accessories. Can't bear stuff round my neck, belts look weird on me, don't like bangles, only wear earrings for posh work

I wear stud earrings but I wear glasses, so as others have said, it can be too much.( Don't like empty holes.) Never wear a short necklace- but too long can disappear into cleavage, or worse, embrace just one boob!

I've never figured out why earings look wrong sometimes and ok at others - will be the difference between days when I'm wearing contacts/glasses

I tend to opt for necklaces, and have just dug out my belt collection as am losing weight and am at that annoying between sizes phase.

i'm another glasses/contacts person, I have grown out my fringe now but when I had it I had to wear it off my face when wearing glasses or it looked cluttered. Long hair and a collar on a shirt is another bad combination for face clutter, when wearing collars I always put my hair up.

I don't feel dressed without watch, earrings, necklace and a silver ring on my right hand, wedding and engagement rings on left, but rarely wear bracelets as they catch on things and dig in my arm when writing, rarely wear belts as I always have my tops over my bottoms. I love chunky scarves, gloves, hats in winter, but don't do silky type scarves indoors.

YouDoTheMath - you'd think Accessorize would have loads but they don't, it's all gold for long necklaces atm. Ditto New Look, DP and Topshop.

All Saints have some lovely dangly longish necklaces but quite fussy - I'd like something really simple really. I was thinking about buying a long plain silver chain and buying a charm to go on it as there are loads of charms around, Pandora etc.

I have just bought a 21 inch silver chain with letter charms with the initials of my DC on them. I can't wear long necklaces due to having 36DD boobs. They just stick out!
