Good but cheap foundation (does it exist?!) for daughter?

My teenage daughter is just about to go off to university, and realises she won't be able to afford the same foundation (clarins) as she has been using for the past couple of years. I was wondering whether Mumsnet could suggest any good foundations suitable for young skin that cost £10 or less?

I usually use Mac foundation but had to buy something that wasn't in a glass container to take to Glastonbury - I picked Max Factor smooth effect foundation after it was recommended here and I really like it. It feels good quality given the price (about £8) - you can pick it up in boots. I still apply it with a brush, which I think helps the finish. The max factor xperience foundation is also meant to be good.

The body shops good too, and if you save up to buy most of your make up at the same time you get buy 2 get 1 free, plus discount and if falls say on your 5th buy you get an extra £5 off and then an extra £5 for your birthday

A bit of a pain waiting and saving up and buying it a job lot but it's good stuff and then all the other discounts on top make it look fairly cheap.

Last week I got fountain, masare, a pot of 4 eye shadows, and a free large tub of boby butter for £18

I use Nivea tinted moisturiser and have noticed very little difference between that and the Estee Lauder Doublewear Light I used to use.

It has been on half price offer in Asda and other stores recently so only about £2-3.

I was thinking that, Bonsoir! And there's nothing wrong with 17 or Rimmel for make up in general, especially if she's young and experimenting.

Thanks for all the ideas so far :) Will look into all of these ideas. Well, Bonsoir, she's 18, so although a teenager she is an adult. She doesn't wear anything too heavy, just something to give her a matte complexion. I think that's allowed?

I got DD2 a mineral powder foundation from Neutrogena, or maybe it was Almay (she thought her cheeks were a bit blotchy/too red). She loved it and never looked 'made-up'.

DD uses Revlon Colorstay and I've been rather impressed when I've borrowed it - would consider it for myself if money was tight.
Never tried a bourjois foundation so can't compare

maybelline wonder finish is about 6 pound and ive been using it since i was 17 gives a nice powder finish :)

My DD uses Revlon colourstay and is on a budget too.

I also tried a L'oreal one recently and it's not bad.

Definitely the Bourjois sleep effect. Best cheap foundation I have used and is really quite light.

I use MAC studio tech normally or Illamasqua but would still happily use this foundation.

Can't you get her something to do away with eye bags and something seperate to blend over any small inperfections - I can't believe an 18 year old needs foundation - I am 36 and don't use it other than to cover eye bagsand any occasional spots.

My gran told me it will look awful and will make any spots worse and have never ever covered my whole face in the stuff - is what I will be teaching DD as hate seeing young girls with faces covered in the stuff.

Bourjois is made by the same people as make Chanel so if MNers are recommending one of theirs I would def investigate. (I heart their n varnish)

What on earth is wrong with a teenager wearing foundation?! I wore foundation and if my daughter wants to wear foundation I'll teach her how to wear it so she doesn't look caked.

I would suggest bourgeois or lily lolo minerals.

I think its less about the fact teenagers wear make up and more about how they wear it .I have insanely red cheeks and when i was in high school and was teased really badly .but i used a bit of light foundation to make it less noticeable .

I like that Maybelline dream matt mousse stuff. I don't put it all over my face, just under my eyes and over any blemishes. Lasts ages too.

I think it is tragic to wear foundation when you don't need to. Far better to invest in skin care than to buy foundation...

My DD is 6 and uses cleanser and moisturiser religiously, morning and night, with my help and blessing. I really hope she will always have lovely skin and not want to slather it in horrible foundation.

A brushing of bronzing powder is all a young skin needs.
