Please help me to not look a complete arse at the wedding tomorrow!

Going to a friends wedding tomorrow and have suddenly had a panic about my outfit! We don't get the chance to go out often so really wanted to make the most of it and show OH that i can still look quite attractive when i get the chance to make a bit of effort!!!

Anyway i couldn't afford a new dress so am planning to go in a maxi dress i bought next year but suddenly panicing i'm going to look like a drag queen or something (nothing wrong with drag queens just not the look i was hoping for!). I am useless at styling myself but i have the following options to choose from to try and look less ridiculous. Bright red lipstick and nails to match the flowers (too much?), a large blue flower for my hair(again too much?), a black pashmina, flat black strappy shoes, dangly blue earrings (not sure how much jewellery i should go for).

I have time for an emergency dash into town in the morning but not many shops to choose from.

I am 28, a size 14 with a larger tummy than i'd like and 5ft8 if those things make a difference and i have long dark wayward hair. I do have spanks to help with the figure.

Please help or tell me to ditch the dress and find something else if that would be more appropriate! I'm truly useless at this stuff. God help me when i have to buy a new work wardrobe when i go back to work!!

The dress is quite busy so keep jewellery and accessories plain and simple. If it's a church wedding you will need something to cover your shoulders - call me old-fashioned but I think it's respectful within a church building.

Flat shoes may be too casual, but maxis and heels is a hard look to pull off succesfully.

If you hit the shops early you may find something you like better, there are a lot of good deals in the sales.

agree with crazy about keeping the accessories simple.
and you'll need a cardigan, because the weather's very changeable at the moment.

I don't agree with the having to cover the shoulders in the church idea, but I can see that point, and it probably is a respect thing. also, churches are bloody cold .

It's not a church wedding. Will try and find a navy pashmina in the morning and perhaps some better jewellery than i have now.

Plain jewellery so may be a watch and a bangle or bracelet only. No necklace and stud earrings.

Shoes I am not sure. I never am when it comes to a maxi.

wedges go perfectly with maxi dresses. high enough to make your legs look longer, but no danger of 'spiking' the bottom of the dress with your heels.
