Knickers - I'm starting afresh with my knicker drawer, what should I get?

So, I have knickers Grin but they're all old and tired - I was pregnant, and I had a baby, got badly torn (actually ripped to ribbons), and am having my undercarriage redone. So I thought I'd start from scratch with my undies to match my nice new...er...! Wink

I don't wear strings, and all my current nicks are M&S minis, which are comfy and dependable (don't ride up!) but I'd like something a bit more exciting. What can I get that's fancier, but still dependable?

I won't do g-strings (with my piles?!), I find shorts tricky because they tend to ride up for some reason, and I've had some strange ones from Sloggi. (And besides aren't sloggi all white?)

Any advice? Or is it back to M&S?

I like ones from La Senza - the sort that are 5 for £12 I think. Can get different styles - I am not a thong type either Grin

I really like the M&S Brazilian cut knickers. Very flattering and comfortable with zero ride-up factor :). Ditto their cotton boy shorts. In fact the shorts are so comfy that I wear them for yoga (beneath harem pants.....am not Geri Halliwell) and they still remain in place despite lots of bending, being upside down, sticking bottom in the air type activity :o

Maybe I need to find a bigger M&S and start exploring the ranges! I find the ones I've got look a bit schoolgirl, basically, and let's face it, I'm a long way away from being a schoolgirl. Or schoolgirl sized. Sigh.

Try the M&S website maybe? I live near a very large M&S but there is still more choice on the website.

I was in another M&S recently and they had lots of colourful stuff. I would have bought some but for current heavily-pregnant state.

Personally I have:

  • black basics (t-shirt bras, strapless, cotton knickers in various styles, "magic" knickers)
  • nude basics (as above)
  • a few colourful bra/knicker sets (pink, purple, blue) with 2-3 different knicker styles to go with each bra

I can't remember what they were called, but a few months ago on here someone was recommending knickers from GAP as being the best they ever had, so lots of others had got them and agreed they were great. But something tells me they could only be bought from the US website...... someone correct me if I am wrong.

MrsTroll - that's really helpful to know what others have! I've been browsing around on Figleaves, and I'll have a look on M&S and LaSenza online as well. I have bras (well, currently they're nursing bras - but I never skimp on bras!) but I do need everyday knickers, as it were.
I'm debating whether my knickers should match my bras, or whether I should have a pair or two to match my bras but then get some cotton multipacks.

Decisions, decisions! Smile

Ooh, M&S has a helpful guide to knickers! Tulpe - good to know about the Brazilian, because I would have steered clear due to the look of them (Sloggi ones sit halfway across the bum cheek, but slide upwards quite quickly!)

I absolutely love the Brazilian m&s knickers. Very comfy and not so little girly which I find the minis sometimes. If I were starting from scratch I'd buy 10 pairs of black, 5 of white and a few pairs of nude seamless.

Any ride-up, Comrade? I've been browsing the M&S selections and they're lovely, but I'm thinking I might buy a single pair to check for comfort before I splash out.
I agree, the minis do look a bit little-girl, even if you go for leopard print or whatever. I think it's time I got more grown up pants! Grin

I am loving Gap knickers. Perfect fit and pretty patterns, shorty types which I like.

Apart from that I love matching bras and knicks from decent brands. La Perla, Freya etc.

I also wear Sloggi nude colours.

I am genuinely mystified as to why you would want anything other than a couple of black cotton multipacks (in your preferred cut) from M&S or BHS Confused Grin

Maybe some nude/white ones if you're partial to white see-through trousers, and some of those magic knicker things for special outfits, but that's it, surely?

I can understand why minis would look little girly if they had Upsy Daisy on them or something, but otherwise they're just ordinary pants, no?

Or am I missing some sort of pant-related revolution?

Sloggi HotHips. Laser cut, virtually seamless, no VPL, but no dresses stuck up the crack of your bum when you bend down to pick up baby/do up your shoes/get something from lower shelf of supermarket. IMO, the most important thing about underwear (for wearing, as opposed to for sex) is the it should be invisible under your clothes. That means no lace, no bows, no frills. Save them for the bedroom. And don't wear cotton, it sticks to your clothes.

I love Sloggi crop tops, but the shorts not so much. They just feel a bit nylony and tight compared to cotton. And they do ride up a bit - maybe it's my arse shape.

LOL Bamboo! (At the first post, not some cruel laughter at your arse!) I find that minis do tend to be a bit dodgy - pastel spots or stripes, straying into upsy daisy territory - if you buy anything other than black.
I should have said that I won't wear white knickers, because I don't like the fact that they always look shabby after a few washes. (But actually that probably says more about my washing routine than anything else. Blush)

I do, however, like some laciness under my jeans, and I don't wear white or pale see-through trousers (width issues...Grin)!

Currently favouring M&S Brazilians. But will buy one pair to try next time I'm in the shop, because I do worry about wedgies.

HouseOfBamboo there is nothing like an interesting pant drawer to bring a little colour and happiness into your life :)

bet you only wear white bras as well

lol at interesting pant drawer.

I'm sure DH would be keen on my having an interesting pant drawer, but I can't see it brightening up my life really! I don't do scratchy lacy at all, so the choice is pretty much limited to cotton multipacks.

Bras are mainly black, same as the knickers!

Princess - the Brazilians do look nice, too lacy for me but they're nice!

My La Senza ones aren't at all lacy, I don't get any wedgies and they are nice and cheerful :)

I had a revelation a few years back and started buying sexy underwear for meGrin
DH isn't bothered he always says he's only interested with what's underneath so fir years didn't bother. Then a few years back when I was having body confidence issues post baby I started spending some money on underwear now I'm hooked.
Love silk stuff from debenhams & m&s(although I find their sizing a bit suss)
Brazilian thongs are great, but otherwise bikini briefs or really nicely cut shorts (la senza/m&s/debenhams)
Also supplement with Plain black string sided bikini briefs from m&s (make sure they are bug enough not to cut in) as I prefer to have loads of spares in case the washing machine breaks I can't be arsed with the washing

The best knickers by far for my shape (stocky is how I would describe myself in the are normally covered by knickers!) are M&S brazilian and M& S high legs. Neither move at all on me (and everything else does, without exception - shorts are a no no), they are made in a range of fabrics (so eg I wear the slinkier fabric under a jersey dress so it doesn't stick to cotton pants), lots of colours and they wash brilliantly.

For me, nude, black and white would be plenty. I'd probably buy about 15 pairs, to ahve enough choice of a morning depending on my outfit.

My SIL only ever buys Accessorize knickers (not Monsoon - they're different apparently) and she loves them.

Tulpe put me onto M&S Brazilians a year or so ago & they're brilliant. Comfy, cotton (with cotton lace trim), sexy & minimal VPL. I threw all my others out & have 10 black pairs, 5 white & a few coloured ones to go with most bras.
