Men in skirts

Yesterday I was out with youngest DD and her friend from school (both 9) and we noticed something we dont often see. A man on his own walked past us wearing a skirt (like mens jeans but as a knee length skirt), acting quite normally like it was no big deal. DD asked me why he was wearing a skirt and I simply said it was his business and it is rude to stare. I was left wondering if this is a rare occurrence or if it is more widespread and I haven't noticed. I was quite annoyed with DS recently for trying on skirts so perhaps I am missing something.

why were you annoyed with DS for trying on skirts?

Yes, Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier and many scotsmen wear skirts. Omani men wear ankle length white dresses (I am sure there is a technical term for them but that is, essentially, what they are). I wouldn't think twice about a bloke wearing a skirt in London but I would notice it in the rural village in which I live (unless he had matched it with Hunters and a Barbour :o )

My opinion will be based entirely on his choice of footwear.

What did he have on his feet op? If we're talking man shoes and ankle socks then he needs style advice. A pair of espadrilles or boat shoes with a discreet trainer liner would be a different matter altogether sartorially speaking.

aah, sausages - I have to disagree. A "trainer-liner" is always a questionable sartorial choice, discreet or no.

Tulpe you are of course correct but regrettably few people remember the talc, rendering pumps of all denominations an anti-social shoe from the months of April-September.

No idea about footwear sorry. Just wondered if anyone else had come accross this.

fwiw, my annoyance with DS was after comments from neighbours who saw him doing so and worried about the safety of their own children with this 'strange creepy boy' in their neighbourhood (slightly ott but thats their problem).

I am also curious about what shoes he was wearing, where you were and what the overall outfit was like. Utilikilts should only really be worn by strapping Californians and accessorised with sturdy workman type boots. If he was some pale, paunchy insurance type with black leather laceups and office worker socks then I fear for this country.
