What is so special about hunter wellies?

I am willing to be converted, but if the attraction lies in photos of hunter clad belles swanning around Glastonbury, I'm just not getting it. They are ubiquitous.

Sure they come in pretty patterns, but my feet are so god damn big, only the boys sizes fit, so not much glamour there.

Are they going a bit Burberry? classic old English brand getting picked up by the masses, and is starting to spread itself a bit thin.

Mine are from TK Maxx, so about half price.

They are slimmer than normal wellies and come up higher (mum was comparing them to hers, she wants Hunters now ). When we go for a muddy walk I do feel very smart in them.

I did go off them every so slightly when I saw Wayne & Colleen in them on the TV.

I wear them pretty much everyday (not all day mind). They are the only wellies I can wear which don't knacker my dodgy achilles tendon, they are light, longer, and grippier than others I have used. I get mine from Out of the City who sell them at reduced prices, especially at the end of "festival" season. I would never pay the full whack for them, nor have the extra fancy colours - currently I have "pewter" which is a sort of silvery grey. I have tried others but not found anything that lasts as well or as comfy. I do not buy them cos celebs wear them!

I wear Hunters and DH wears Aigle. I have them in navy and love them. I wear them every day for at least 6 months a year for dog walking. Personally, I would recommend buying the neoprene lined ones as they keep your feet and legs beautifully warm.

I certainly didn't buy them for "sleb" value but I do think they are as stylish as wellies can be. I bought them as they were recommended as hard-wearing, warm and comfy - everything you need in a pair of boots for trudging through woodland and fields in the rural area in which I live.

I do have to suppress a when I see women wearing them in Mayfair in London. It is central London, FFS. You do not need heavy duty wellies there!

They are very good quality. I bought some new ones last year, but my old ones lasted about 25-30 years!

I think they are a bit crap tbh.

DP works clearing up after festivals over the summer and brings me a left-behind pair home every year, and they have always split by autumn.

Hunter wellies used to be made in Dumfries and were known for being excellent quality.
Now production has switched mainly to China and quality is nowhere near as good as it used to be.

best quality out there imo and i need wellies at least 6 months of the year. keep my feet warm and dry, have good tread and last years.

Love them they are comfy - not like the big buckets I use to wear. They come high up on the leg - which makes walking through deepish puddles without getting wet possible. And you can get them in great colours.

I have heard that the quality is not as good as it use to be but they are better than Joules - my joules lasted 6 months before spliting, my dd's lasted 4.

I wear Aigle. Better than Hunters. I need comfort as I can be running around with them on the farm. Neoprene lined like silk - cheap wellies dont work for my senstive and feet. They catch the backs of my heals and the plastic base digs into my underfoot. My quality wellies last a couple of years. I need warmth too nothing worse than frozen feet.

Yet good wellies do a decent job. I have worn Barbour coats for years believe me I'm no social climber! Real posh wellies are Chameau. But I havent the atire to match I'm afraid.

Anyway off to Glanusk country fair this weekend with no tweed!

I wanted a red pair of wellies and the only pair I found were Hunters so I bought them, I didn't realise they are considered a bit naff until I read various threads on here a while back! They are very light and not quite as clumpy as some wellies and I find them really easy to walk around in.

They are very comfy, don't slop around my skinny ankles like cheaper pairs that I have had. We do lots of winter walks on the beach, would hate to do that in anything but wellies. Mine are navy, have had them about 10 yrs, wear them a lot, love 'em.

They are welligtons not a fashion accessory.Just well fitting comfortable wellingtons.My first pair lasted 12 years.So good quality.I live in the country and they are essential for dog walking snow floods and general country persuits.

Even wore mine tonight when I came in from work to wash my car. Linen shift dress designer sunglasses and the old faithful Hunters!!

Mine are so comfortable I have worn them with no socks at times. That's good enough for me when I'm stomping around the forest or on the beaches with the hound.

I really can't believe people have an opinion on them as if they are an item of clothing. They are wellies, they stop you getting wet or muddy.
