Help me accessorise for a ball. I fear the 20 weeks bump is not going to cut it.

I have the dress here

I know it is not very ball swishy like but i am prg and refuse to fork out out £££ on a dress i will only wear once.

I need accessories to make it ball like.

Thank you.

It is years since I went to a ball, but I think I would go for a glam bolero type thing. Grin and am going to tentatively suggest this. 70s is very much in fashion, no?

less of a statement

I think it depends on how tall you are in part, and how such things would frame your bump, also on whether you want to make a feature of said bump!

Oooh i like the crazy one. Had not thought about bolero's.

Was just looking at shoes and necklace's. Silver maybe?

Am short btw. 5'4 if i stand on tip toes/wear heels.

I think to glam it up your need either pearls or diamonds!

Report
largeginandtonic · 28/06/2011 16:29

Does that mean the dress id def not glam enough for a ball or that i should buy diamonds and pearls?

< hopes it's the latter >

No I meant if you accessorize with diamonds or pearls it would glam that dress up.

I think the dress is lovely! I'm sure you'l look fab.

Perhaps have you hair done in an up do, and a nice pair of diamond earings? chandelier type?

Hi, there are various possibilities. I think your dress has a great simple line, and that could work quite well with the pouffy jacket idea. Pouff around the shoulders would certainly make my (quite hippy) shape look more balanced and these days I like having my arms covered. (Mind you, it depends a bit also where the ball is being held. If you are wandering around a quadrangle somewhere it can get quite chilly in the middle of the night. However, a big hall with lots of people in summer could get very warm and if you are pregnant you have your own central heating.) Hair up and big dangly earrings.

There is that great axiom, look at your reflection and take off one accessory to be elegant. A flash necklace and big earrings and a shiny clutch and a marabou jacket would obv be too much.

If the dress is floor length, your shoes won't be seen so much. I think they should be comfy a) because you are preggers b) better for dancing in anyway c) no spiky heels esp if you are going to be walking across grass (or anywhere that might be muddy). I have some Gucci wedges that are v good for this sort of thing.

I think the dress is lovely. A nice sparkly bracelet, necklace, shoes, hair done/up would be fine I think. Silver/platinum would be nice with that colour.

A bracelet like this:

OK not at that price but Accessorize would have something similar I'm sure.

Oooh help! Ta very much all of you.

Geordie and Herecomes i think the dangly sparkly type earings could be fab, had not thought of that. If i do big earings do wear a long necklace or teeny one?

I ALWAYS wear my hair down for any out type affair as it is in a ponytail most of the time. Is very big curly hairstack. I iron it to within an inch of it's life. Could do Farrah Fawcet type flicks? Or maybe be brave and see what the hairdresser can reccy. Am off there next week.

It is a Naval ball but in a hotel. We are staying there too so no chance of bad weather affecting hair etc... I may HAVE to cover my shoulders (tis a Naval thing) for dinner. Gah.

I am considering the spanx. They make pregnant roundness specific one's. The dress is v smooth line and vpl would look bleurgh.

Archanat it is Isabella Oliver. In the sale atm.

Sweetheart phew!

I would go for a diamanté cuff and big earrings, with hair in some sort of fab up do. I wouldn't bother with a necklace, just a wonderbra Wink

Nooooooooooooo to spanx. You will be uncomfortable and restricted, you have a bump. Be proud!

Yes Geordie but the bumps on my ass and thighs are not something to be proud of. Are they uncomfortable? I have worn tummy control ones before for my sis wedding. They were ok.

The ones i have found are quite long in the thigh and come up to my armpits. Arf. I will look SO attractive getting dressed.

Embrace the bump! And don't worry about your arse... You can't see it so therefore it does not exist.

Head to accessorize for earrings and cuff... Or even dorothy Perkins had some nice costume stuff for pennies.

I like it. I need a clutch anyway, essential purchase. I have a wedding in August too.

Have hot pink Elena dress from IO for that.

I actually had pregnancy spanx and they're not uncomfortable at all - sadly, the existence of a bump at the front didn't negate the lumpy ass and thighs! It doesn't restrict the bump at all, the fabric over the bump is much much thinner.
