How long should smart trousers be?

I've been looking at some parallel leg trousers I bought recently and think I've bought them slightly short. If so, I'd need to order longer ones next time. Bascially they only just touch my feet at the front if I wear flats/low heels.

The thing is, I've been looking around and can't seem to get any advice on how long trousers ought to be - not for women anyway.

I get that if wearing brogues or somthing like that I shouldn't really be showing sock, but what if I wore ballerinas or courts?

What do people think?

IMHO, parallel leg/bootcut/wide trousers should be loooong, almost touching the floor at the back.

Too-short trousers flapping round the ankle are one of my Room 101s of clothing (along with arse-exposing leggings and too-short tops).

thanks, I thought they looked ok when I tried them on before ... but I was barefoot. I don't really like them touching or even nearly touching the floor as then I keep catching them when driving etc.

wonder if it's still possible to send them back ... or the other option is to find some completely flat work shoes and hope that makes them look ok

Yes, they should always just clear the floor, max 1cm off. You need to buy them whilst wearing the right height of shoe. Obviously you can buy too long and have them taken up.
